The short documentary "Deciding Vote" demonstrates once again that the abortion debate in the US is by no means a new phenomenon. In a genre-typical mix of interviews and archive footage, this documentary shows how New York Assemblyman George Michaels' voting behavior in 1970 played a key role in ensuring that significantly more liberal abortion rights came into effect in the state of New York. For my taste, the film plays it a little too safe and perhaps exaggerates Michaels' role a little, but overall it is still quite enjoyable and, in view of the ongoing debate, also very topical.
