I am not sure what type of people this movie is tailored for. If you watch this movie and you really think about the story or what the overall point of the movie was, it's fairly empty.

Without spoilers, the movie had too simple of a story line. So simple that you waited for something to happen that made you care. By the end, I don't know why this movie was made. The movie introduces things that make you think have significance, but then ends up being absolutely nothing. It's like the writers didn't even know what they were doing so they wanted to leave the audience to fill in the blanks. Though still, leaving it up to the imagination doesn't make this movie worth watching at all.

It's a good slow intense thriller with good performances from Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas. But the ending was terrible.

The only reason you should watch this movie is if your to be watched list is entirely empty.

I think I get it! The snails are supposed to represent the snail-like pacing of this awful movie.

This is a good psychological thriller. It moves slowly at times. Ben Affleck and Anna De Armas delivers.

What in the world is the point of this. A more compelling story would be Trixie as a young adult trying to break into the snail raising industry.

This was just plain bad.

This movie was pretty crappy. It started slow, but I kept with it hoping it would change. Nope. It stunk all the way to its ending, which stunk as well.

Such a waste of time

During 80% of the movie I thought that I didn’t like it. It’s basically about the perverted relationship of a nymphomaniac woman with her cuck husband. It’s disturbing, sado-masochistic and sick.
Most of the movie I was in disgust, because I do believe that these kind of people really exist. At least, whoever wrote the story, is a genius and a very sick person for sure.
Yes, I was disgusted and annoyed by nearly every character, but yes, in the end I like it because very few movie characters do that emotionally to me. I will never watch it again of course…

This was the first movie in 41 years that I've watched that felt like I've wasted my life with the time I used to get through this whole thing, to then land the ending that I got. F Afflak. F the director. And most importantly F Melinda for being the most hateable character of all time.

Apart from the name, marketing, pacing and script, the biggest issue with this film is the casting - Affleck is completely wrong. Imagine Vic as a socially awkward, chip-designing, snail-rearing, poetry-publishing(?!) nerd who finds it difficult to express his emotions, and the whole film make a whole ton more sense.

Premise - 13/20 - A couple with problems? Interesting, but not special
Cast/characters - 15/20 - Ana de Armas has certainly blasted onto the scene. Ben Affleck has more acting ability than credited for, and he's certainly improving with age. Grace Jenkins plays their young daughter, and she is definitely fun to watch. The end credits scene gives you a big smile.
Plot - 15/20 - I was more interested than I thought I'd be.

Dialogue - 12/20 - Nothing special.
World-building - 10/20 - Nothing to see here.

65/100 - 3/5 stars - I enjoyed the watch, but honestly, it's not anything I'd watch again. It was forgettable in the long run.

[Amazon] The changes with respect to the novel do not benefit the film, a kind of emotional derailment for a marriage of convenience, however, snatched by jealousy. The third act is an unlikely disaster that is based on the decision to give the couple a sexual chemistry that works thanks to Ana de Armas, but that establishes an impossible solution path. Decisions as surprising as the closing credits.

It is a slow developing plot movie and it is not something unseen. I can’t say this is a movie to remember and also i don’t like how static is Ben Afleck. But it keep me awake. So I am not disappointed.

A weird one. The movie itself isn't very good, but I liked the actors in it. Grace Jenkins the little girl who plays Trixie is the true star of the show. For her it gets bumped from a 4 to a 5.2.

i think had the cast not been quite as good the movie would've been pretty average. i'm going to give the director the benefit of the doubt because if i picked back up something after years i'd be pretty rusty too. either way, affleck and de armas had amazing chemistry and they made the slow pace bearable.

Not terrible but as the mystery isn't much of a mystery, this is a flawed comeback by director Lyne.

waow impressed by the acting, the production, the script and how dramatized it is, if you want to watch a drama story that will satisfy you 100%

I didn't have high expectations after seeing the reaction from critics (and the fact that the studio canceled the theatrical release dumped it on a streaming service) but I was very into it. Lyne is one of the best at erotic thrillers and if you are familiar with his previous work, then you are going to enjoy this one.

This movie is rather slow, but it does leave you with something to think about. Not too profound but still there's something to think about in regards to their toxic relationship.

Some decent scenes, but overall a bore.

Ana de Armas and Ben Affleck is great but story doesn't go anywhere. I enjoyed it. Same kind of event repeats with different person. As a normal person, this movie makes your skin crawl. Amount of disgust and sorry, you feel is same. The slow progress of movie is not a problem, this is how great drama/story develop. People just lack patience these days. On a personal note these kind people of aren't doing it out of their choice, they are sick.

The movie really is a 3, but if you are a straight man, Ana de Armas makes it a 6. I am dead serious

With 'Deep Water', 'The Gay Man', and 'Blonde'; Ana de Armas has not been having a good year.

This movie is one big meh…. I keep waiting for something to happen that will be satisfying but I got absolutely nothing. I don’t even know the point of this movie. What are we supposed to take away from it? :woman_shrugging:

If all movies were good movies we would get spoiled and take it for granted. This movie is actually helping people to appreciate movies more. That's why Ben Affleck agreed to do it.

Hardcore couple therapy. ;) The script is a bit tight, but the actress that stands out from the background of the movie is Grace Jenkins.
