Overall a good film. Lots of gore and the practical effects were well done. Good atmosphere with lots of colors and good 80s music. Some great scenes especially the scene where the lead is cruising the theater on a dirt bike slashing demons with a samurai sword. Simple plot with no character development which is ok but the consequence is some scenes drag when the action isn’t taking place.
-"Those screams sound real!"
-"Come on, it's the Dolby system."
Too bad this can't be watched in a theater anymore. I kept thinking of the opening scene of Scream 2 the whole runtime. Demons offers us a cool creature concept, a mix of zombies, demons and most similarly; Deadites. A group of people trapped in a theater have to work together in order to survive.
The practical effects is the biggest praise I could give it, they look great. Gory kills. Good score that stays in your head (maybe a bit too repetitive) and lots of needle drops. It's a shame but it must be because of the times or whatever but every single lady in this one is annoying, hysterical and useless. The inclusion of the four delinquants outside the theater wasn't necessary, it just adds more time to the movie.
I enjoyed the first third of this a lot it had a great setup that hooked me. Got a bit stale in the middle, took too long for something to happen. That gives it the feeling like it was too long. Picked back up in the last third but it never blew me away. Standard stuff. Intriguing ending though.
3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Demons’:
That awful dubbing really takes you out of it, doesn’t it?
It didn’t make a whole lotta sense, and it had those typical cheesy B-movie moments, but… it kept me entertained, the gore was on point for its time, and you can tell there was a vision by someone who knew what they were doing. It was far from horrible.
I appreciated the eye candy. That male lead / Jensen Ackles-lookalike can get it. Especially as he miraculously transformed into some sweaty action stud.
Rosemarie: "Ow, shit, I scratched myself."
Tony the Pimp: "That will teach you to touch things."
This is pure gory trash of classic of Italian cinema, but I like the ironic joke of the blind man going to the cinema. But the humor gets more cruel when he gets his eyes gouged out.
Bloody disgusting.
Happy Halloween everyone!
A truly enjoyable horror flick. I had so much fun with this. 80's rock/metal soundtrack completed the experience!
According to my old tvtag post, I watched this one on September 13th, 2013, and the Spider-Man (2018) video game that just came out has a spooky-looking mask that reminded me of this film; that motorcycle/katana scene is still freaking awesome!
