You really need to judge family movies based on two questions. One how much did your kid's laugh? And two how annoyed were you? On both counts "Diary 2" scored well.

The focus is largely on the Heffley family this time out and it centers around their home life. All of the characters have strong personalities and main character Greg is not so self-centered and is much more likeable. Big-brother Rodrick steals the show. His antics and pranks on brother Greg make this movie stronger than the first. There are a couple of scenes that really bring the funny for the kids and they have been replayed many times at my house now that the movie is out on Blu-Ray.

The Heffley parents are not the typical stupid adults you see so often in kids' movies and on cable channels these days. This made them more than tolerable. They were actually nearly as much fun as the kids.

Both of the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" movies do a more than respectful job of representing the best-selling books.

A great sequel as this one follows the relationship of the two brothers, as the first film hints at the big brother Roderick having a huge impact on Greg's new middle school life. This one was more comical as it escalated the personalities in more of the characters. The plot was also a bit more straight forward.

I can't believe I'm saying this... but this movie is actually not that bad. In fact, it's pretty dang good at parts.

One of the extremely rare cases where the sequel to a shitty film actually improves on every aspect. It's funny, it's got heart, it's got drama, it's got everything. It's probably the best a 'Wimpy Kid' movie is going to get being on the big screen.
