A lovely fable that is a change to the usual rom-com. And a nice outing from Jonny Depp before he became an arsehole and embarrassment.
The main problem here though is that Marlon Brando let's the side down significantly. We have a wonderful turn by Faye Dunaway and she & Depp deserve far more from Brando.
His mumbling of lines is a poor show but his general execution of everything is labored, distracted and weak.
The final voice over, for example, is meant to be delivered in a faux-Spanish accent and comes out as faux-Russian... Just unforgivable how much latitude he must have been given.
There is an honorable mention to the melody from "Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman?" by Bryan Adams (et al) which is used brilliantly and copiously throughout. A much underrated song in its own right.
