Total crap. Nothing more to say :-/
I had some fun with this movie, but don't get me wrong, it's terrible.
flex hits the nail on the head, though I would contest Cage's "4 facial expressions". He only has 3 in real life and he's not that good an actor to method his way to a 4th :)
I watched it with my two late teens (son and daughter) and and some of the set pieces have moments that are enjoyable, but some are terribly executed (woeful CG). It's worth watching for the gun fight in the bedroom which we uniformally agreed was both ridiculous and cool.
@sean - I hear you. Getting really tired of the 3D money shots; so jarring in 2D. As for 3D in general? I think it has it's place however, that place isn't any film that has an explosion in it. I am dying to seeing Werner Herzogs' Cave of Forgotten Dreams in 3D, and the idea of having to flatten it at all seems a crime.
Easily the best movie of 2011
Screw it, we'll do it with cgi
Fun, Nicholas Cage being Nicholas Cage. William Fichtner is really good in this, David Morse deserves more screentime. First Billy Burke movie I'm watching, he's pleasant. Who is Amber Heard?
LOL, if you don't take this movie too seriously it's decent to watch, you just know it could've beeen a lot better with a better script. The actors all do fine but it felt like every 10 minutes a "Haha" should've been added to the end of their lines.
Nicholas Cage has been in some great films during his long career, most notably Leaving Las Vegas for which he won multiple awards for his performance. He's also been in some utter dross such as Ghost Rider, which was (in my opinion) justifiably panned by critics and earned Cage a Golden Raspberry for Worst Actor. He is clearly an actor capable of great performances who can recognise a brilliant script and help make a fine film, or do the complete opposite. Sadly, this is one of his weaker efforts.
One thing an action film should never be is dull and sadly Drive Angry is boring. It seems to be made by someone who finds muscle cars exciting and deserving of pride of place in a major feature film. Because of its flimsy high concept storyline, this needed a blend of snappy dialogue, memorable music, and exciting action set pieces but failed on all fronts. I didn't really care about any of the main characters so my attention and began to drift long before the halfway point; there was nothing in the third act to make it suddenly compelling so it was a minor miracle I watched until the end credits.
I think a different director would have made this obviously self-referential and shot with a Grindhouse aesthetic, perhaps throwing in some gratuitous sex and nudity for the hell of it. Patrick Lussier isn't one of those filmmakers. Nor is he a director like Michael Bay who would throw in some explosions in absence of narrative coherency.
Nicolas Cage can be a great actor, often been impressed by William Fichtner but he was also wasted here. This is a film to watch if you are morbidly curious, have nothing else to watch, and want something on in the background while you are ironing. Otherwise, give it a miss.
Damn,William is so coooooool!
I quite liked this fast-paced action flick with it's comical touch. The only thing I did not like was the final battle between Milton and King and especially the cheap special effects. Why did they not keep the style of the other special effects or the comical rendering of the introduction?
Anyhow it is entertaining. Great soundtrack btw (-:
Cool Story, nice Girl
This is a wierd one...I ended up enjoying myself, even though most about this film is rubbish. Let's just take it for what it is...stupid mindless action with a little bit of devilworshipping on the side. At least it was funny...
You always know what to expect from Cage, monotone acting. But he always seems to have a hot sidekick and in this movie i didn't mind the 3d.
Awful!I really wonder why Cage can't play in a decent movie.
I really wanted to enjoy the film but I found the terrible script, acting and CG too distracting. My highlight was the crazy sex/gun fight scene.
Such a shame as I quite enjoyed the story itself.
I wasn't expecting much from this movie, but surprisingly I quite enjoyed it.
Nice bit of action, not a great story but was entertaining. The CG was absolutely awful though. Though that with all the tech they have, they could have made it so it looked slightly real instead of it looking like a playstation 2 game...
Didn't know it was made as a 3D cinema movie, can't say I noticed the so called ques people have been mentioning.
Was also nice to see Nicolas Cage act a bit more chilled in this movie instead of the usual over the top acting he usually does.
ne menge titten übertriebene action, aber war recht unterhaltsam... man verpasst aber auch nicht, wenn man ihn nicht gesehen hat.
Nicolas Cage makes me skin crawl, so I expected not to like this - but Amber Heard actually makes it watchable. She could of carried the movie on her own without him and his bad hair.
Bluemoonio - Like Ghost Rider? LOL
Terrible. Amber Heard managed to make it watchable though :)
What a waste of time!
Further evidence that Nicolas Cage will take any job offered, well matey, my drains need clearing.......
soooooooo.. anyone else hate 3D movies translated to 2D at home?
Wait, wait.. let me rephrase.. anyone else just hate 3D movies??
It has the same quality as Ghost Rider but has a lot more violence and blood. And the gore effects are the only thing making this film worth its time.
The story is boring and been made and watched a thousand times.
Nicolas Cage is still unable to have more than 4 facial expressions and Amber Heard is a somewhat cheap Jessica Alba in Sin City wannabe.
Seen on the Theaters today. i did’nt like it, so much clichê.
