Just a cool stupid classic that gets a couple of good laughs when you're feeling blue.
Usually, I can see why people like cult classics even when I personally am not fond of them. But this movie...it was just so incredibly underwhelming in every way. Some of the jokes were tolerable, even funny, but most of them consisted of either Carrey's weird faces or toilet humour. Not even good toilet humour. It's a really, really bad example of comedy. The good bits were pretty decent, the bad bits(the majority of the film) were atrocious.
I didn't hate it, but I don't get the big deal. It's one of the worse 90s screwball comedies I've seen. Certainly one of the most boring.
Whether you can stand Jim Carrey or not will probably determine whether you'll like this comedy or not. In my case it's unfortunately a big no.
Not a so funny film. I was bored most of the film.
If you had 107 minutes to kill and turned this on I wouldn't necessarily blame you, but if you're looking for more than embarrassed giggles keep looking.
I usually like this kind of super stupid comedies and a very dumb character always provides a good time of fun. A couple of them is even better, I thought... But that didn't happened with this film. Many praise this as a classic comedy, very funny but my laughs were actually very few.
Jim Carrey's overacting does not always works for me and unfortunately this was one of those times. There are very few films that I like with him and they are not this kind of dumb comedies that he usually does. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Man on the Moon or The Truman Show are good examples where he can do his overacting thing without being too annoying or too stupid.
Jeff Daniels on the other hand was good. He was the only one who provided me some good laughs, I guess the only times that I laughed in this film were because of some of his actions and lines.
Overall, I can't say that I had a great time watching it but I can't say it was terrible too. I really wanted to like Dumb & Dumber more but for me it was just average. Also my "thing" with Jim Carrey does not always work.
"Dumb and Dumber" is a classic comedy with Jim Carrey who is at his very best with this performance from early in his career. His quirky mannerisms expressions and physical humor hadn't yet become familiar. Jeff Daniels is a great sidekick playing an even dumber character who gives the movie a heart. Lauren Holly demonstrates a knack for comedic skills as well. There are some great gags with some physical and stupid humor. There isn't an obsession with the crude sexual humor so prevalent in current comedies either.
Lloyd Christmas: What are the chances of a guy like you and a girl like me... ending up together?
Mary Swanson: Not good...
Lloyd Christmas: Not good like one in a hundred?
Mary Swanson: I'd say more like one in a million.
Lloyd Christmas: So you're telling me there's a chance?
A bad classic that would be better without the terrible dream part.
Can’t believe this movie’s turning 30 this year.. just got to see it in theaters and to hear the most annoying sound in the world in full surround was well worth the trip to the theater!

"So you're telling me there's a chance. YEAH!"
It has been awhile since I've seen Dumb and Dumber and I still know most of the jokes and when they come, I still laugh like a maniac at the opening bit with Lloyd falling out of the Jetway after proclaiming he's a limodriver. I still agree about what the most annoying sound in the world is. I still believe that Harry's car is iconic, the ending is brilliant, the bickering is amazing, putting these two, Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey together was an epic idea and I'm real happy that one of my childhood favorite movie still holds up today.
And it is even more brilliant than I thought, when I was young I loved all the psychical comedy but now I also appreciate the many great lines. And I do believe when I'm watching this one down the line again that I will again freaking enjoy it.
It’s stupid but it’s also a fun watch, there are some jokes that are still gold in here although some didn’t hold up well with age.
Two but very very stupid.
Classic buddy comedy. A must watch for any age.
The classic saga of two brain-dead numbskulls who undertake a cross country trek to return a "lost" ransom briefcase, having mindlessly intercepted it at the drop-off. En route, they blow through sleazy motels and truck stop bathrooms, swapping rides and crossing wires with all manner of similarly dim-witted, off-color characters.
Ah man, it's such a Farrelly Brothers movie. Thick-headed humor, as easy and superficial as it comes, with an unrelenting time capsule for a soundtrack and a pair of lead performances so good they lift the whole mess into something that almost transcends mere stupidity. Almost. No two ways about it: this is the Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels show, start to finish. Who else could ad-lib "the most annoying sound in the world" into something that's still so funny after thirty years? I certainly can't imagine another duo pulling off those famously terrible peach-and-baby-blue tuxes. The whole film seems to exist as a vehicle for whatever the stars felt like doing or saying that day, with said Farrelly siblings more than happy to let the cameras roll, and we're all the richer for it. Even the throwaway quips are solid gold. Carrey was in the midst of an early career apex at the time, with Ace Ventura and The Mask having already topped the box office that same year, but Daniels is, unexpectedly, there with him every step of the way. It's a showcase of impressively loose, laugh-out-loud physical comedy from a guy who wasn't (and still isn't) known for that type of work.
A not-insignificant number of jokes have curdled over time (wow, I did not remember so much homophobia) and there's no escaping the numbing, jaw-dropping idiocy of it all, but the key scenes still stand tall, the sheer force of personality is strong and there's no denying the amount of fun everyone was obviously having on-set. Sometimes it's okay to be big, loud and dumb, especially with a title like that. Call it truth in advertising.
I know this is a classic but it's a question of taste, and unfortunately this film doesn't have any.... I found the rampant homophobia and frequent sexism especially distasteful.
I don't think it's as good as the 2014 release but it's still a solid script with plenty of laughs and brilliant acting by Jim Carrey. One of many timeless VHS classics with high rewatch-ability.
From the Farrelly brothers comes Dumb and Dumber, an outrageously hilarious screwball comedy. When a limo driver named Lloyd Christmas becomes infatuated with one of his fares named Mary, he convinces his best friend Harry to travel cross-country with him to return a briefcase that she left at the airport. Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels, and Lauren Holly lead the cast and are especially good with this type of farcical comedy. Plus, the humor is able to be silly and outlandish without being vulgar or gross. Additionally, the soundtrack is used remarkable well, creating a lighthearted tone. Over-the-top and incredibly fun, Dumb and Dumber delivers a ton of laughs.
Enjoy the wittiest and superb movie and laugh hard
