Father's Day 2011

Troma films are either a hit or a miss for me and Father's Day is the latter. I enjoy my gore, I like humor in my horror films and I don't mind it being low budget but somehow a film about a demon raping/eating/murdering fathers did not click for me. There were some one-liners I enjoyed, I loved the ending, Adam Brooks rocks a leather jacket and the gore looks great.

But the plot was all over the place, is felt like they just started writing and were waiting to see where they would end up. The way the Fuchmanicus is born isn't something I liked and in the end it just didn't have the charm that the Toxic Avenger had or the craziness of the Poultrygeist.

Maybe I went in wanting to like this one badly that it felt flat, maybe I wasn't in the mood, maybe I will like it more if I ever rewatch Father's Day but for right now, it was kind of a let down.

Grindhouse style exploitation. Some of the acting is awful but who cares? Some of the movie looks really good and the music was good. It's obviously a movie for a particular audience and for fun.
The problem was story and script. It seemed to be made by some fans of the genre who came up with crazy ideas for the sake of it, then had to pad it. They stuff they added probably fitted a criteria it would look and sound cool. Non of the characters jump out, even when they are made to be quirky.
A pure fan film.
