Can I have the last hour an a half of my life back please? This movie is so boring.
It's a great movie that has a lot of fascinating moments!
The plot is slowly built up, so it's a plus point. I recommend it!
Disappointed. I wanted to see a movie with medical experimentation gone wrong, which after having read the synopsis knew it was about after-death experience. But then i was amazed at how the movie swayed from the storyline and transformed itself into a part of Insidious and very bad copy of Fast & Furious. Not horrifying but a horrid experience for me at least.
Never mess with the after life. I really enjoyed it, loved the 90's version too, I feel it got a underrate and deserves more credit.
Another bland remake. It's very light on thrills, the story and resolution leaves much to be desired. But it's a cool concept, so it's interesting enough to get through it...

It was not a great movie. On theater, it was this or a shitty disaster movie.

I'm not that much into horror film therefore I cannot said if it is one or not.
There are some jumpscares even if some are unfinished (particulary one "jumpscare" in the boat, with the shadowy figure after the baby blanket that gave me goosebump), some sort of a story but I think the plot could have been way better.
For example, the only guy who did not flatlined could have been the one who killed them all instead of everyone drinking in the name of forgiving themselves
The first part may have been rushed to let the "thrill" takes place in the second half of the movie (so may have been the last 10 minutes conclusion).
That being said, I don't think this is a bad movie, I'm just saying that it could have been better and the whole "life after death" story may be more explained.
But this is my opinion and there is no better one than yours

I actually enjoyed the movie a lot. I don't know why people are being so harsh about it.
I saw both the original and the remake, liked them both. I also like Elle Page, Nina Dobrev and Diego Luna, so it might have helped, and definitely liked to see more female leads.
Just do as with any other movie nowadays: sit, relax and don't expect too much.
With Sutherland as his original character, sounds like a sequel more than a reboot.

starts out well, but then it only goes downhill and becomes boring. The original from 1990 is so much better. The only good thing is the acting and Kiefer Sutherland's cameo.
On its own: Pretty average thriller. Some well crafted tense scenes, some pretty OK wire gags, some semblance of character development. Not bad.** 6/10**
Compared to the original: They took elements from the original and moved them around between characters. The stereotypes of the overachiever, the jock, the bully and the angel of life are still there. By the end of this film the characters have a little more resolution to their individual archs. Well acted by a good cast, but still not a stellar movie. 7/10
A remake of the Joel Schumacher cult hit, Flatliners is a gripping psychological thriller. In an attempt to learn what happens to the brain after death four medical students experiment with inducing death and resuscitation, and in doing so touch something on the other side that begins to haunt them. Featuring Ellen Page, Diego Luna, and Nina Dobrev, the film has a pretty solid cast and a nice cameo from Kiefer Sutherland (who starred in the original). But the characters are a little underdeveloped and the conclusion is a bit anticlimactic. Still, there’s a good amount of mystery to what’s happening to the students and the chases and fight scenes are fairly intense. And the directing style helps to heighten the drama and suspense. Flatliners doesn’t quite live up to the Schumacher original, but overall it’s an entertaining film that delivers some creepy chills.
i liked this but i also love all the actors from their other work so i realize that i'm immediately 100% biased. diego luna was so cute in this movie
This movie started as a solid 9, very good and intriguing, but somewhere along the way it became very dull and predictable. I think they should have focused more in the exploration of that after-life, like the explanation part (the section where they saw Courtney's brain scans) didn't sound very convincing. They just saw that and concluded the after-life exists? It doesn't make sense to me. And in the end everything could be resumed in the same old "fighting your inner demons" plot. Boring. But I liked their decision to kill Courtney, I wasn't expecting that, although I don't think the rest of the cast was able to maintain the movie's quality after that.
It could have been a good idea but the execution sucks.
OK, they try to experiment with NDE. Why not. Let's totally forget about the risks, the short and long term effects of the lack of oxygen or even of the CPR and the rest of the resuscitation procedure. It's supposed to be a scientific experiment, with an MRI record of what happens.
But after speaking about it for 10 seconds after the first time, the results of the experiment are never ever talked about again. Instead they just use it as a kind of high. They just get drunk and party right after. Hell, after that they even get drunk and party before.
It could have been saved by a cool haunting story coming after their experience, but it just turns into a stupid cheap guilt trip. Are you serious ? They just all happened to focus on one thing they've done they feel guilty about, that then has physical manifestations able to hurt them, but you just have to forgive yourself, and poof it's gone ?
Such wasted potential. It could have been nice SF, or fantasy, or horror, or maybe go thriller, so many possibilities, and it's garbage.

Just average. Really cool idea that could have brought so much to the table. Just your average "something weird happens that makes crazy shit appear just for the protagonists" kind of movie.
Pretty good, really. I have to admit that I never fully saw the original, so I went into this blindly and I enjoyed this movie quite a bit.
It's an interesting plot, arguably they could have played around with it more. I spend most of this movie imagining the possibilities and coming up with my own theories for the plot, which I think is a good thing. I like a movie that gets you thinking in terms of: what if.
Also, Ellen Page, always a delight.
I think this movie only works if you are a tennager and you have never seen a movie before.

For someone who hasn't seen the original, I really liked this. Gotta say I did hide behind a pillow a few times.
There seems to be a lot of people judging this movie badly, honestly comparing two things, even when something is based on the other, never has a pretty end. Gotta hope some of these people don't flatline and come back, well good luck!
Normally I would never quit a movie half way through. This is the Exception.
This remake is dead on arrival. The original was no classic, but at least it brought the scares. This one flatlines throughout, with nothing to distinguish it from the 1990 film. A shame, as I was hoping for something better.

Nope.
It's a remake and I seriously loved the original. This one isn't as great but I did like it. For people who haven't seen the original and do not have those nostaligic feelings with it as I do, this movie might pretty much suck. It's not scoring a 5.1 on IMDB for nothing.
If you like the plot but not how it's worked out; try the original. It leaves less plotholes and takes its time a little more to work out the important stuff and doesn't feel like everything is rushed.
Fun little fact; Kiefer Sutherland is in both.

as for someone who's not seen the original version. my reason for watching this was purely the concept of it. life after death and Nina dobrev (huge vampire diaries fan ). I must say I definitely didn't appreciate the horror aspect of the movie. and the way Marlo saw the spirit of the main female cast was too cheesy. oh so predictable ending. I wish the blonde male doctor was cuter. sigh only the first half of the movie is good.

Without watching the original it was pretty good but the second half contains too much thriller for me :(
The first half was ok, but then it went meh.

Flatliners is like an online date, the profile looks interesting but when you finally hook up, it's just a tease with no real action -- plus you're out 10 bucks.
Seriously, a horror film about people not dying where no one dies? Sounds like my work day.
