I could have watched Violet do that dance all day!!
While the quality of this movie admittedly isn't great, and I can appreciate why it gets a lot of flack, it's a huge guilty pleasure of mine. It's probably the first movie on the series I think I saw when I was a kid. It's worth watching for the comical Ethel Hubbard alone :D
Wow.. Didn't see that coming
A couple notes.
I felt that since Tommy (as an adult) dreamed about himself as a kid, witnessing Jason come out the grave and murder the two boys, it felt like it actually happened. Otherwise that is such a weird type of dream to have.
Pam reminds me of Ginny from part 2
I'm not sure why Roy didn't just go after Victor instead of killing everybody but the one person that actually killed his son. And speaking of Roy, it was painfully obvious he was the one doing the killing. I thought they could have better choices when it came to him and making us believe he wasn't directly connected.
You can feel the sleaziness of the production, probably due to the director, but this one gets ragged on a little too much, essentially just because of the twist. Which is ridiculous, as it's a pretty solid entry into the franchise...
Everyone hates this part because Jason is technically not in it. But it is actually one of my favourites. Who cares if someone else is wearing the mask? There are some great kills, some nudity, some funny moments. A great slasher overall.
i felt so good when he killed Vi and the cop saying Jason is killing these victims made no sense at all since there's no solid proof to back up his theory whatsoever. as he was killing u can see the back of his head and then when he died his head was normal!!!!!! seriously!!! u expect me to fall for such for that?!!! other than that watching old movies is always fun no matter how lazy the plot or production is, that's part of it and we all embraced it and that's the fun tbh.
"It's... Showtime!"
Friday the 13th: A New Beginning is the other one without Jason Voorhees. This time it is the father of the annoying chocolate bar eating kid who gets an ax to the head.
I still enjoy that they tried something else but it still feels a bit flat to me compared to the others. The kills are mostly kinda off screen, fake blood was really expensive in 1985 I think, even Joe Bob didn't enjoy that part. It also has so many cars that won't start! Incredible. And you have a recurring character in Tommy Jarvis and he's not even the main focus!
Anyway, it tried, many kills, many characters, some scenes you'll never forget because they are so out of the blue and the great idea of more people wearing the iconic mask to kill.
Still, so many deaths over a chocolate bar. No, part V is one you can skip.
This movie is pretty bad in most aspects. Actually, in all of them.
The characters are not interesting, like at all. Reggie and his brother are the ones that show a little life inside them.
For some mysterious reason almost every character in this film sings some annoying song in random moments. Oh god, please stop, we’re not in a musical.
Deaths are uninspired, generic and not creative. Most of that is due that they do not want to show the killer’s face, they could’ve done a better job for sure though.
The story is weak. It has a plot twist that apparently makes the killer’s identity one character that appears for 5 seconds and you’ll possibly have two thoughts: “yeah, I knew this was the one, that 5 second look gave it all” or you’ll end up like “who the hell is this guy?”.
Or maybe it was Tommy that did all the killings and that ambulance guy only killed the people in the final act of the film. You know that it’s not really Jason there butchering everyone. Whatever, I suppose it’s not worthy to think too much about this movie anyway.
“Jason” visual is not good. I don’t know, it feels weird, maybe it’s because the new mask being blue and fitting strangely in the actor's head.
So as you can imagine the film is super boring, lame and meaningless. A New Beginning is probably the weakest of the franchise, or not. Let’s see what other nightmares are ahead, I don’t think I’m ready for it.
"so I was thinking for the next Friday the 13th, we need a new hook. So, get this. For the next one, hold on, you're gonna love this, let's not show any of the kills. You know? The thing that made this franchise famous? Yeah, let's stop doing that. People are gonna love it. What? No I haven't been drinking, why do you ask?"
-The director probably.
I gave it a five because there is a nice twist at the end, if it wasn't for that, I'd probably would of gave it a three.
With Jason dead and buried (and, shockingly, remaining that way) the series shifts its focus to a Pennsylvania halfway house. Here, a dozen years in the future, we find Tommy Jarvis: young survivor of the last Vorhees killing spree, now fully grown and grappling with mental illness.
The intention must have been to freshen the stagnant franchise, but that effort goes no further than a change in location and the mysterious identity of a new hockey-masked killer. We're still stuck with the same basic plot, and though the frequency of kills has gone through the roof, the level of originality has not. Almost every method can be traced to an earlier picture (where it was undoubtedly performed with more finesse) and, most times, there's no rhyme or reason behind the means of execution. Perhaps the bloodiest work came in the editing room, as an X-rated early cut led to countless deletions: the resulting quick-cut camerawork often makes it tough to surmise what's going on and ruins the pacing of many scenes.
It's saddled with a flood of pointlessly one-dimensional characters, fuel for the bloody fire, who come and go like shoppers at a Black Friday sale with nary a whiff of development. The soundtrack reaches new lows, impressive given how inept earlier entries were in that department. And perhaps most damning, an awful bait-and-switch fakeout spoils the climax. Pathetic filmmaking, through and through. Is it any surprise the director/screenwriter never worked again?
I like Jason Voorhees as a character but movies with him are pretty weak. I enjoyed older Tommy Jarvis even he was a real freak, and to be honest I was quite confused with Jason in this movie so the conclusion was pretty good and unexpected for me. Unfortunately characters are always stupid and dialogues even more.
Some good kills in this one. I'm glad Reggie survived. It was awesome when it hit "Jason" with the tractor. First movie not near Crystal Lake no wonder it's not really Jason.

A frightening horror film that's full of scares, Friday the 13th: A New Beginning revives the series. Haunted by the memory of Jason, a now grown up Tommy is sent to a halfway house to assist in his recovery; but when a new killing spree begins the local sheriff suspects that Jason is still alive and has returned. The directing is fairly good, and does an impressive job at maintaining suspense and mystery throughout the film. Additionally, the kills are brutal and chilling. There are some issues with the plot, but overall it's able to move the series forward and break away from the trite formula that the films had fallen into. A refreshing entry into the franchise, Friday the 13th: A New Beginning brings back the terror that had been missing in the last few installments.
