Frontier(s) 2007

A blood-spattered, though not exactly original film. It is a lot messier than expected and there's a lot of odd choices but it is still a thrilling, enticing, and unflinchingly brutal film. The plot is maybe too derivative and it doesn't attempt to hide its influences but I really dig the added political subtext and the amped up violence and gore. The film is incredibly gory and horrifically creative in its torture scenes which can be uncomfortable to watch at times. I'm not a fan of flashy editing and jumpy camerawork here which make this film feel Hollywood-ish. The performances are ok, I honestly struggle to find any likeable characters in this one. Overall, this film is decent if you're looking for something brutal, though I have to say that this one falls short compared to other New French Extremity films.

It was ok. The right wing stuff was probably not needed. But I hated every shaky camera scene.

French version of the texas massacre with Nazis, bloody and hard to see, there are things that happen that do not make sense

I waited a long time to watch this because I'm subtitles lazy. It's pretty damn good. The story isn't especially new, but it has some surprises. I'm not sure why the Nazi angle is there. It could have been basically any f-ed up family. I imagine it more poignant in French history. Fun movie. Lots of blood. I enjoyed.
