Sometimes all you need is a decent action flick. Is some of the acting a bit stilted? Yes. Is the music a bit generic? Yes. Is the story or characters groundbreaking? No.
But Ngo Thahn Van, perhaps best known to western audiences for her brief but memorable appearance in The Last Jedi's first scene, has charisma and presence, and actually got me tearing up when reunited with her daughter. The bond between them is endearing enough, the villain is badass and oozes cool, and most importantly, the action is a ton of fun. In particular, a fight with handcuffs, one with a knife, and the final fight shot in an oner are memorable, frantic, and kinetic. It feels like an action movie from the 90s, and if you go in with that mind set, you'll be satisfied.
The lead actress has done a pretty good job of playing the bad ass mother in distress willing to kill and maim anyone in her way.
The story is linear but enjoyable. Fight scenes get better towards the end. The film is a good watch and keep you interested despite the fact that the rest of the cast can be pretty bland at times.
The lead actress is in her early '40s God Damn! And I thought that she's still in her mid '20s.
The fight scenes were ok, acting was ok, story and plot holes were bad. I’d skip this.
The story doesn't win points for originality, but wow, this turned out pretty great. The use of Vovinam (Vietnam's martial art) makes the action sequences fluid and dynamic, and Veronica Ngo kills it as Hai Phuong, bringing a guilt-ridden desperation to her performance. (And yes, she was totally wasted on The Last Jedi.) Not a groundbreaking action movie, but it's fresh and interesting.

great production values and a capable female lead makes for an engaging film that was well worth the time. looked good, fast moving plot, plenty of action, and some adequately portrayed drama. kept my interest and got my heart pumping a few times.
