Gods and Generals 2003

“One of the better films related to the American Civil War. I have seen the film on three occasions, and each time I am equally amazed by how visually stunning and weighty it presents the Confederate Army and prominent military figures.

Pickett and Robert E. Lee are particularly intriguing in the film, with Robert Duvall delivering a standout performance. However, it is the portrayal of Stonewall Jackson that truly elevates the entire film.

From a historical perspective, it is incredibly captivating and well-executed. However, there are a few aspects worth mentioning that lower my rating:

• It is overly lengthy. 3 hours and 39 minutes could have been condensed to a maximum of 2 hours plus a few minutes.

• The film received direct funding from conservative Christian sources.

• This is clearly reflected in the dialogue, which aims to highlight Christian fanaticism.

• The storytelling is overly one-sided, focusing predominantly on the innocent Confederate soldiers.

Nevertheless, overall, it remains an exceptionally well-crafted film. I highly recommend it, particularly for those seeking visually grand cinematic experiences.”

I was hoping Lloyd Christmas would make an appearance.
