Seeing all the rampant antisemitism in 2022 makes this film a must watch.

[MUBI] Louis Malle creates a perfect movie. A story of friendship that is touching and tragic at the same time. This is one of those movies that deserve to be seen from time to time. Memories become exceptional images. There are no manichaeism, no emotional tricks. It has an extraordinary subtlety.

A harrowing, heartbreaking story of life in a boys convent school in Nazi occupied France. The boys are played so well and the setting is so honestly and sensitively portrayed. A real tearjerker at the end

It was an interesting change of pace for me to see a movie portraying how the French youth was affected by WWII. The occupation seems to be in the early stages, as almost all the boys, being Catholic, are not very troubled by the presence of the militia seeking out Jews, except Quentin, who is the one to keep Jean's secret. It's a story about the end of innocence and both actors and director where able to bring out some great performances.
