this was just ok but i didn't mind it. wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea.
I really liked this movie! Great actors and entertaining. You will especially like it if you're into hockey.
"Kid, I will lay you the fuck out."
Sean William Scott and Liev Schreiber are great in this. Liev truly is a terrifying looking dude and Sean is believable as a clueless goon. You don't have to like hockey to enjoy it, but it does heighten the experience!
It's a bit bloody but it's worth all the hype you've heard about it and more. Sean William Scott could give Tom Hanks lessons in how to play a lovable idiot. Every character is a treasure to watch from Allison Pill's self-titled hockey slut Eva to our antagonist Ross "The Boss" Rhea. You only see slices of them but they come alive in this well directed movie.
Doug the Thug starts out as a bouncer with a skillset that makes him a loser and disappointment. He has a few friends but he lacks fulfillment. Something he struggles to even express. A chance fight at a hockey game reveals a new use for his talents of being just a tough nut to crack. He can be a goon and use his skill at violence to help a team. Eventually he becomes entangled with two places who are as jaded as Doug is earnest. It works so well.
Easy to dismiss if you're not looking closely, Goon is far more self-aware than almost any other entry in the small-town-kid-joins-the-big-team genre.
Also, they told me this movie inspired a lot of content in Letterkenny, and they were not wrong.
More heart warming and far less goofy than I had expected, and a little bloodier too. I rather enjoyed the tale about a sensitive goon. The synopsis is somewhat misleading, rivalry is hardly the focus of the story.
not really a hockey fan, but not a bad film there hey?
I expected nothing special. I got great entertainment.
Nice flick. Watch it.
An occasionally heart warming movie with some decent performances, hurt by lazy writing that is way too dependent on old stereotypes for it's comedy. On a side note, as a hockey fan, it shouldn't be surprising that hockey is seen as a joke sport to a lot of people, especially when hockey fans make movies like this. 5/10.
Nice heart warming movie. Funny too
this movie was great. down to earth and made me feel for the main character. watch it.
superb movie !!!
I thought it would be good, but it was much MUCH better then that.
Omg, that was AWESOME! It was like watching Transformers with real people.
Totally underrated movie. :)

Goon
A heartfelt story about a loser that finds his place.
Hidden beneath a violent, sports/bro comedy.
William Scott and Schreiber nail their roles in this flick.
7.5/10
