It's a Wonderful Knife 2023

The first act was pretty decent I didn't see the twists coming at all. Very Christmas-y. A concept that's already been done a few times but I like it here. The first few kills looked so fake. Frustrating decision making.

Second act has a lot of sequences with the killer and a decent amount of kills but it lost some heat. The story doesn't stay interesting and it needed way more comedy. Some characters completely disappear from the movie like Justin Long and especially Cassandra Naud, where did she go?! So we're left with the bad actors for the remaining time.

Third act was terribly stupid... it's like they had no idea how to end it. What a let down!

Of the "old-premise-turned-slasher" movies, It's A Wonderful Knife falls short in comparison to its peers; I had a much better time with Totally Killer, Happy Death Day and Freaky. It really struggles out the gate as it desperately tries to be likable and edgy with a scrappy undertone of punchy humour, but it all kinda falls flat. It takes until the final third for the charming relationship between Winnie and Bernie to finally get brought to the forefront, but by then it's too little, too late. The epitome of mediocre, background viewing at best.

A crazy mess, It’s a Wonderful Knife is nonsensical garbage. After getting a college rejection letter and discovering that her boyfriend is cheating on her, Winnie Carruthers wishes that she was never born and finds herself in world where her town is being terrorized by a serial killer that she had killed the year before. Jane Widdop gives a fairly good performance as the lead, but the rest of the cast is pretty bad. And the plot is convoluted as all get-out; making less and less sense as it goes on. But worst of all, the killer isn’t at all scary and has no sense of menace, and the kill scenes are rather lame and perfunctory. It’s a Wonderful Knife has an interesting premise, but it doesn’t know what to do with it.

I seriously wanted the main character to die.
That last 15 minutes were painfully bad besides that it's fine for a Christmas slasher.

If Hallmark made slasher movies.

I had high hopes for this, liked the premise like the story another xmas slasher with great expectations but a total letdown.

It didn't made any sense. Especially the last 30 minutes, what was with the blue eyed people, hypnotized, what the heck happened on the last act , what nonsense was there!

Oh and i never seen such a PC movie, not only it checked all the boxes but i do not think that anyone was straight on the movie. And it even had a non stereotype beautiful lesbian, yes she had to have something on her face because they exist too, and they are not all blonde with perfect faces.

What a waste of time and opportunity.

"Boohoo I killed an insane mass murderer"

This premise is enough to ruin the main character for me completely.

Weirdo remembers??? So she remembers growing up in another timeline for 20ish years living a different life, and she's now in this timeline? What the f***??

Attending another $5 :pound_symbol:RegalMysteryMovie

The movie was “It’s a wonderful knife”, starring Jane Widdop and Jess McLeod and featuring Joel McHale and Justin Long.

The movie was not meant to be anything but a Shudder-produced rated R horror version of “It's a Wonderful Life” with a dash of LGBTQIA+ Hallmark movie thrown in.

Decent kills, humor, and throwbacks to “It's a Wonderful Life” made it an enjoyable evening at the movies.

'It's a Wonderful Knife' is one of those slasher films with a twist, such as 'Happy Death Day', 'Freaky' or, most recently, 'Totally Killer'. However, the budget seems to have been a bit lower here than in the aforementioned works, as the movie has a rather generic look. None of the actors really convinced me either (Justin Long in particular is terrible). However, it has to be mentioned that the rather weak script doesn't exactly help the actors. But at least the kills are not too bad, and they are quite bloody, even if there are not enough of them. Overall, the movie takes itself a little too seriously for my taste; perhaps it should have focused more on comedy like the other examples mentioned. As a Christmas movie, it is also rather disappointing.

Not quite as heartwarming as the Capra movie. A good premise is wasted in this weakly scripted movie.

Concept could've been great, movie ruined by shoe horning the gay nonsense everywhere. Gotta be careful the censors of letterboxd don't like straight pride. Their argument is so weak they gotta censor dissent just like their favorite dictator they love to reference.

The movie could've also done without the nonsensical zombie thing that came out of nowhere (more time on serving the script and less time on gaying it up next time). Too bad, had potential.

This one missed the mark. Some decent effort from Widdop as Winnie, and Long is great if not underutilized as the creepy mayor, but the tone feels all over the place. Edgy horror meets hallmark and it just doesn't work. Some okay kills, and a better second half vs the first. Still, it's hard to go higher than 3.5 for this entry.

The movie had its moments.

It's a Wonderful Life...but horror. It is also just not anything special. I wish it was much better, but it will only really appeal to the people that like cheesy, lower budget horror movies (even then, meh).

Despite being a slasher version of It’s A Wonderful Life. The movie gets weirder and goofier in the end. Like the screenwriter was just rushing to write an ending.
Which is disappointing since the movie is involving until it falls apart. I like the Fantasy Horror movies of late, like Totally Killer, Freaky and Happy Death Day.
This one was almost as good as those. It’s sort of cute nevertheless. The end is just lazy though.

It's goofy and stupid, but it's good fun and what more do you want from a Christmas film than to be entertained and just sit back with a fun movie that you can just enjoy. I really enjoyed it, a lot of fun.

:heart:x6
Goofy? Yes. Silly? Yes. A poor imitation of Scream or Scary Movie? Yes. Worth watching? Well - that depends - if you're looking for a quality Horror/Slasher movie, then no. But if you're looking for a mindless, mildly entertaining Horror-Romp, then this might be for you.

How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

"It's a Wonderful Knife" puts a dark and humorous spin on the beloved classic, "It's a Wonderful Life," by infusing it with a slasher horror theme. The film introduces Winnie, who, after a heart-wrenching loss, wishes she was never born, thrusting her into a nightmarish reality where a slasher terrorizes the town. The casting, featuring Joel McHale, Justin Long, and William B. Davis, contributes to the film's appeal, and the killer's unique portrayal as a tree-topper angel adds a creative twist to the horror genre.

While the movie successfully incorporates humor in its first act, some elements fall short, particularly a forced romance that feels rushed and distracting. The film struggles to capture the true essence of Christmas, relying on visual cues like a Christmas tree and the killer's angelic attire. Budget constraints are subtly evident, affecting the depiction of kills with a lack of practical gore. Despite its imperfections, "It's a Wonderful Knife" offers an enjoyable experience for those intrigued by the fusion of holiday cheer and horror, even if it doesn't fully capitalize on the potential of the family-movie-turned-slasher concept.

This story was handled worse than a box marked fragile being loaded on a plane at Christmas.

After Freaky, Happy Death Day, and Totally Killer, the latest film to fall victim to the horrification of classics is It's a Wonderful Life, which is butchered by It's a Wonderful Knife.

When a young woman stops a murderer and then wishes she'd never been born, she's confronted with the consequences of a killer run amok in her small town. But the real victim is the screenplay we slaughtered along the way.

Unfortunately this is more in line with Totally Killer than Happy Death Day. You have to do a little more leg work than just “something meets slasher” and think you’re all done. Justin Long as always is a treasure, but everything else is really lazy. Especially the slasher set pieces which could have saved the movie.

At the end of the day, the subtext is white woman has to sacrifice her black friend to realize she’s a lesbian. PROBLEMATIC

If you're looking to waste a little time, this is the perfect waste of time.

If you were just told you have 6 months to live, you better find something more interesting to watch.

Maybe a soap opera like "One life to live "...
