The person who wrote this movies has a very different sense of what good and bad is.
I don't see how anyone read the script and still made the movie. The minute the phone starts talking and being mean it's clear this movie is going to suck. I don't know why I didn't turn it off!
I wanted to see this movie. I thought a movie about a person relating and getting to know their cellphone would be fun. I'm disappointed.
Someone could make a good movie on this concept. Phones are so popular, and a movie about a man and his phone could be good. Just not this movie.
Better than expected, with the occasional funny moment. It could have been better though, as the obvious script could have been written by an A.I. infused algorithm.
LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL this was so funny!!!!!!!
Yes, it’s stupid but funny and entertaining for what it is.
I don’t know if the film made it to theaters or not, but Netflix feels like a good home for it.
Jexi is basically a long SNL sketch, taken way too far. It’s more like Her but for middle schoolers who giggle anytime they hear the word “penis” and think writing swear words = writing jokes.
Does this movie have:
An interesting and good script? No. It lacks any cleverness or originality, there’s nothing new and the joke “hey the phone swears and calls Phil names” goes on for the whole movie. Jexi is also very predictable, you’re always a mile ahead of it.
An understanding of technology or relationships? No. The movie tackles the “humans and technology” thing in the dumbest, most obvious way.
Entertaining leads with actual chemistry? No. I totally didn’t buy the relationship. Cate somehow fell in love with Phil, even though he was creepy and not charming. I think Adam Devine is good in Workaholics and The Righteous Gemstones but putting him as a lead is just not something that he can really carry.
Painfully unfunny and heavy handed in trying to deliver a message about being on our phones to much.
This is awful. The way its shot caught my attention though. It alternates from standard steady cam to actual scenes where the camera (a phone perchance?) visibly wobbles and jerky zooms in AND out as if they paid a visiting 2nd grader with ADHD to film for them.
It was extremely fun until halfway, it then started to be predictable and a bit boring.
Also: in real life the girl would have instablocked the guy, so creepy
Horny no more Jexi's quote: "This is terrible… fake orgasm! fake orgasm! fake orgasm!"
I was pleasantly surprised. Not great, but a good light watch if you have nothing else and only half pay attention.
Don't waste your time on this.
It starts off ok, kinda funny. But then it just can't decide what it wants to be. Is it a comedy? A thriller? a horror?
First I would like to say just how terrifying it would be for any phone to have the power it does in this movie. Like for real, this should be a horror movie.
The guy gets a phone and the phone slowly starts to take over his life. It verbally abuses and sexually harasses him. Eventually DMs his dick pics to work colleagues which gets him fired and then, it tries to kill him. And this is... funny? And at no time does the main character try to say to someone "oh my phone has gone psychotic" and try to get help. He just casually accepts that this is his new life now. And while he does try to ditch the phone, it was very half hearted. In fact in one scene he goes back for his phone because he doesn't know how to get home without it. And I mean, seriously? He doesn't know how to get home without his phone?
Add to this the stupid sex jokes that culminate in him having sex with the phone by repeatedly jamming the charger cord into it.
Then there is the really shallow problematic relationship he tries to have with someone he just met. This nice woman who doesn't seem at all surprised that this random stranger tracked her down at her work place and rang her. He eventually gets her number and within 30 seconds is declaring he is in love. He also tries to break up with her as soon as the ex-fiance is in the picture. Like, he was all, sorry, Im so insecure that you cant friends with your ex, so Im breaking up with you. She also doesn't seem to care that this guy knocks her ex-fiance out by hitting him in the neck for no reason other than he thought she was leaving with the ex-fiance (no self defence or anything). These are all RED FLAGS people. Red flags.
Seems like it might be interesting, perhaps even funny at the start. Quickly becomes predictable. I turned it off half way through.
This is a decent enough comedy film with a good message about how having an addiction to our phones can be quite dangerous. There are some points of the movie that I wasn't too keen on and not all of the jokes made me laugh but it was still good.
Of course this movie has to have bad reviews and 1/10 but it was funny as hell, i mean crying funny. Yes a lot of profanity, a lot of weird sexy stuff but this is 85 minutes, you don't have enough time to finish a regular size pop-corn and you laugh soooo many times..
So yes i'm not ashamed i enjoy this comedy more than i did with the more "heavy-actors-great-marketing" ones.
Very funny film. If you're on your smartphone throughout the day, it will definitely appeal to your interest. Do a Pt. 2, Bring Jexi back lol
Very funny. Much better than expected. How has Google not asked Rose Byrne to be the voice?
Pretty funny. A really good premise (we all use our phones too much these days) and some very funny jokes/set-pieces but it didn't make as much as it could from the scenarios.
It could have been a little better with 20 mins more depth to it. It feels lower budget though so I understand the shorter running time.
Well done overall and it really is pretty funny, if just a little predictable.
7.5/10
I did laugh a couple times but had no connection with the characters. Did not care about them at all. Movie could have been half the time and just as good.
This was funny as fuck LOL. Best comedy film of the year, I haven't seen many movies tho haha
I was pretty entertained by this. The AI was notably the most funny, reminding me of Justine in 'Why Him?'. Also I enjoyed seeing the love interest actress, after seeing her in Love, Simon.

It started off quite amusingly, and then it rapidly just went downhill.
Even if the movie only consisted of the first half, I’m pretty sure I’d never watch it again, but the second half certainly sealed that deal.
Like I said, there are amusing aspects to the movie but it’ll never make its way to my screen again.
