Johnny Guitar 1954

After many years without seeing it, we see it again, and we liked it a lot, good for the actors and the direction

It's usually the case that if a movie can be described in "cult" or "camp" terms, it's not for me--and this one is no exception. It's a baffling picture with an inscrutable screenplay--the typical sense of realism you get in Westerns is dialed down for an attempt at poetry that reminds me of the early 30s French films, except here it all the sounds are dissonant on my ears. It's not helped by the fact that I tend to dislike Crawford, and McCambridge here is truly unhinged. Did not work for me at all, despite some lovely color photography.

Emma wasn’t in love with Dancin’ Kid, she was in love with Vienna.

One of the few feminist western. A bit melodramatic but still worth watching.
