For such a powerful title it was really lacking in scale, both on the drama and the creatures. I liked it's premise of asylum patients mixed with creatures and a bit of drama but none of these feel fleshed out by the end of the movie and it felt like it didn't know what it wanted to be. There's a few attempts at humor but it didn't work for me and the ending was flat. On the other hand it has cool set pieces, amazing practical effects and gore (in the last 10 minutes only), the acting is good and the shaman/folklore stuff was interesting. Overall an underwhelming slowburn that needed more fang.
