Let the Corpses Tan 2017

The most visually stunning 2010s film I've ever seen. This neo-western horror uniquely mashes up grindhouse with arthouse and is INSANELY stylistic that it falls under the style over substance category. It's like every single scene and shot are done in the most creative way possible and highlighted in sound. The plot is very thin and simple, it's basically a one big action scene, but the dedication to style and execution is beyond remarkable. Though, keeping track of the characters is a bit harder since every inch of it is so stylized, it's still impressive how they turn a thin story into a fully engaging piece.

Based on a pulp fiction novel from the early 70's, this indie film is made in B-movie style of the epoch (heavy saturation, gritty film stock, extreme closeups...), including allegories such as death as a backlit busty woman who urinates on some and lactates on others. While I loved the over-the-up filmmaking and I'm a fetishist concerning the 70's, I found the constant closeups distracting and all of the night shots too somber to appreciate the action. Still, it's nice to see there are some directors still willing to push the envelope.
