When I discovered the 2006 Ipswich murders had been turned into a musical I felt it was too soon and in very bad taste. I'm also not a big fan of musicals (I fast forwarded my way thorough Les Miserables), so wasn't expecting to get a lot from this movie adaptation of the stage play. I was wrong in my misconception as this is very well done. Its a dark subject but is handled sensitively by the filmmakers and song writers. Its obviously not a feel good movie, so is no La La Land, but it captures a time and place shadowed by fear and suspicion in the wake of horrific events in one neighbourhood.
