So... how will they explain Lily's disappearance?
This was surprisingly scary until the last 15 minutes which destroyed the flow of the movie. It's a pretty neat ghost story and it's got Jessica Chastain in it, which always helps. While there was no gore to speak of, the "Mama" ghost is very creepy as are the two little girls. But again, lame ending.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. Not sure why e'rybody hatin on it. Reminiscent of Poltergeist, some scary parts, some edge of your seat parts, and yes, some predictable parts.
This movie scared the Bitch Wizard outta me! Mama is so scary!! I was wearing a black scarf while watching this movie. After it was over I went to the kitchen to get a snack and as I leaned over to pick it up, my scarf moved. All I saw was dark movement out of my the corner of my left eye and immediately tensed up . Bricks were almost produced. I was like "No Mama No!!"
I still switch light off after that.
Not really new. Some nice moments.

A lot of the movie seems to be in homage to other movies, at least it is done well. I give 7/10
Seems to me that modern horror is all about the jump-scares. This one is at least nice enough to never cheat you with something other than "Mama". Thought that required her to be either better looking or more menacing. Still entertaining and the ending helped to set it appart from other, less creative efforts.

It was creepy and when you don't see mama was scary, but when you see more of her it looks wierd and unsettling.
I though the movie was good and is ok to watch for horror.
I think the plot is not good but it is interesting. But I really couldn't with the effects to create the phantom. Also I couldn't with the idea of Jessica Chastain in a film like this.
Pretty good, might even be worth a second watch at some point. The effects are fantastic, and the acting was very good, especially the two girls!
Jessica Chastain leads the cast in the horror film Mama, from producer Guillermo del Toro. When two little girls are found after being abandoned in the woods they are sent to live with their uncle, but something has come back with them. The plot’s not that original, but the story building is done pretty well and there are some interesting characters. Additionally, the directing is able to create a dark and atmospheric mood. However, the CGI designs are weak and detract from the film at times. Still, Mama is a chilling film that has a strong artistic vision.
Such a little more terrifying Mowgli from "The Jungle Book". ;)
It was... interesting, I suppose? The ghost of the movie isn't scary and the story isn't as moving as they probably intended it to be, but at least it was original. I like Annabel's character development, she ended up being more on the spotlight than Lucas and formed a stronger bond with the girls contrary to what we expected. lol
Guillermo Del Toro's worst film. I didn't feel any way towards this one, not scary, not interesting, just meh. EDIT: I realise now that the reason it's shit is because Del Toro didn't direct it, he produced it
This movie had all the thrills of a scary movie and the elements fright used in the film had everyone in my theater on the edge of the seat. The movie waist no time getting into the meat of the story.
Best weird ending movie ever. Too moving.
The only thing scary in this movie was the little girl, soooo creepy!!xD
First time viewing off the To-Watch Pile for my 31 Days Of Horror. Have heard good things.
I was more saddened by this movie than scared. Without writing any spoilers..I felt sorry for the "ghost" :-(

Very disappointed. GdT is my favourite director and I simply adore Pan's Labyrinth, so I was really excited when I heard about him going into this darker direction once again.
I am not scared easily, so maybe it is my fault that I found this movie not scary at all.
The antagonist, Mama, got my sympathies, for showing that she is a good being, caring for the children and playing with them, if even she had fits of jealousy later on.
Plus, since we humans are generally afraid of the Unknown, we saw her face way too often to be scared of it - frankly, her long fingers and abrupt movements were a little cliché as well, as was the ending in general.
While I did enjoy the change of Annabeth, a character I disliked in the beginning, to get closer to the children, this movie had so much potential that hasn't been acted upon.
The theme of Mama being/hiding in rot was interesting, could have been a hint that her body was rotting somewhere in the woods. Her whole backstory was interesting, nun gets pregnant, baby taken away from her, but how, a little bit more there was something I wished for. Or the father - obviously a ghost/leftover emotion as well, only had one scene.
All in all a watchable movie, but nothing close to scary with a very disappointing end.

I don't get it, it was not scary, it's probably ok, since I was not alone nor in a silent and dark room when I watched, but still, the plot is really boring and makes no sense, 5 mins into the film I was already saying "why?", my question was never answered.
For it's credit, the acting is not bad, eeeh, at most part.
This was not that scary. The ending didn't make sense nor did the motivations of "mama" when her back story was revealed. The ending was terrible because it didn't make sense for, well, anyone.
Did I see the same film as everyone else? It was dreadful. The dialogue was awful, Chastain was awful, the movie wasn't quite sure what it wanted to be and was all over the place. Dull, cliched, twitchy, and painful.
I was expecting a lot more, unfortunately. Some things don't make sense and the ending is so abruptly. I really like the girls acting though.
It was fun to see 'Jamie' in a movie. Indeed the ending sets it apart from other efforts (and yeah, that's kind of creative). However I somewhat doubt that this is for the better..
'Ju-On: The Grudge' meets 'Darkness Falls'. Some scary Scenes, but it's far away from J-Horror Level. You don't feel uncomfortable and you don't think it's better to let the lights on, if you go to bed. It's okay, but there are still other and better films out there, that will haunt you longer after the credits.
Great movie, you know, for a horror movie ;)

Fair one, worth watching. Not scary but creepy and sad. Maybe Guillermo is only the producer but I found similarities between this one and his style. Dunnoo, reminded me Pan's Labyrinth... Way less "classy" and whatever but it has reminded me of it
