Puuhh. What a movie. Shocking and entertaining. The end a bit too much fiction. The opening scene is freaking awesome
whether it's a good movie or not, it's an awful horror movie.
Pretty hard to see, I have seen stupid justifications, but the one here takes the cake
I rated this movie super high, almost exclusively for the ride it took me on. I agree with what many others have said about the movie, but that never stopped me from being thoroughly entertained, start to finish. Martyrs has its share of problems, but it was a hell of a fun ride!
A movie you see one time...a really hard one...
surprised me a little bit. anyway, some scene seem real.I have seen more but this one, on their own.
A stomach wrenching movie. It's really well done and it really makes you think.
"They" told me it has a great ending ...
This is DEFINITELY not a film for everyone. That said, if you are in the mood for a grueling, horrific trip through the small intestines of existential dread, I highly recommend this film.
It is not only a perfect example of New French Extremism, but one could argue that it explodes the very concept of 'torture porn' and almost makes you, as an audience member, complicit.
This is not a film you watch, this is a film you GO THROUGH.
woa, definitely not for the faint of heart.. it makes "salò or the 120 days of sodom" look like winnie the pooh.
Dissapointed. At 35 minutes you still don't know what's going on beyond the few layers of plot presented. It's not because it's a mystery, it's because of a lack of plot development and story telling. What's do we get as entertainment? Violence with a shaky camera (did you expect a proper atmosphere ), and a dollop of cliché mental instability, with all the hallucinations and screaming that comes with that? Yawn inducing characters. To make it even more dull, scenes often go on way too long. That's because they needed to fill the time up due to a paper thin plot. But as long as there's a distressed unwashed bloody girl in shot, it's watchable right? Then the end. When the story actually progresses on a bit. Or does it? It's one of those movies that gets a good score because of hype. Pointless, stupid and boring.
So this movie is what happens when a director has such a hard-on for torture that he forgets to build a story around it. Instead, he comes up with a pathetic twist at the last second and people actually buy it. Martyrs is a cold and hollow mess with no story and no character development, just random violence and gore which is incredibly boring in my opinion. I clocked out within 10 minutes of the film and only kept watching to see what the justification would be... and it was ridiculous.
There is no way i'm going to buy into the world this movie tries to sell me. It's completely random and feels more like an excuse from a deranged director to get off on torturing young women. It wasn't even explained why all of the "experiments" where young women, when theoretically they could've been any gender or age.
