Mary Poppins 1964

Let's get the embarrassing part out of the way first: I'd never seen this movie until my wife showed it to me this year.

Let's get to the important part right away, because this is going to be a rather short review: This movie is, for all intents and purposes, flawless. Julie Andrews is a revelation.

I felt like I could re-watch this as soon as the credits rolled. I was highly entertained and deeply moved throughout. The emotional beats of this movie are doled out in perfect cadence. It's truly something to behold.

A classic musical from my childhood (I must have worn out my record). I can't help but revisit this through the eyes of nostalgia. The animation and live action were a novelty at the time and Disney techs were nominated for their innovative process. Julie Andrews talent was celebrated worldwide and despite her extensive career, she never escaped from this wholesome typecast. Dick Van Dyke was lauded for his comedy and derided for his flawed cockney accent but for us, kids, it was all good times. For a film that marked its times, I rate it a 10 (classic) out of 10. One of my all-time favourite musicals. It is a very classic movie and Julie Andrews is truly the heart of it. The songs are catchy, the casting is perfect and the storyline is flawless. Could watch again and again.

Fun and holds up. Just watched this with my two daughters and it was as good as I remember, although seeing it through their eyes, the musical numbers did seem to drag on a tad too long. I guess it's because I'm not used to musicals anymore, but some sequences, especially the penguin dance, could have used a little more eiding.

There is a reason this is a classic and a perfect double bill with the recent "Saving Mr. Banks." You will find yourself laughing, crying, and singing along to the finest musical Disney ever made....particularly of the live action variety. The pacing may be a little slow for a modern audience, but sometimes to get something good a little patience goes a long way. Not to be missed.

I don't know why but I always thought I would hate Mary Poppins. That's why I never saw it but since I am very interested in go see Saving Mr. Banks I think is was the right time to finally watch it.

Now I realize that it wasn't as I thought it would be and I don't hate it. Actually I quite enjoyed what I saw! Disney Classic.

It's Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

Practically perfect in every way, Mary Poppins is a film for the ages. Based on the book series by P.L. Travers, the story follows a magical nanny named Mary Poppins who comes to the aid of a London family and takes the children on fantastical adventures. Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke give outstanding performances that have become iconic. And, the musical numbers are incredibly catchy and fun; featuring the Academy Award winning “Chim Chim Cher-Ee” as well as “A Spoon Full of Sugar,” “I Love to Laugh,” and “Jolly Holiday.” One of Walt Disney’s crowning achievements, Mary Poppins is nothing less than supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

A very nice kids movie. The song are good for the most part, not everyone is catchy. The choreography is great. Julie Andrews is wonderful, lets see if Emily Blunt can live up to her.
