Mom and Dad 2018

THIS MOVIE HAS NO CONCLUSION
IT JUST ENDS
IT JUST FUCKING ENDS

Dark comedy with a zombie type plot. It's a ridiculous idea but at least it had some stretched out logic to add some sense. It has messages about modern teenage life and those in mid life. Cage's character specifically feels trapped and unfullfied because of the family. I wouldn't say this movie is anti family but it's honest about certain personality types and how the family mould starves them of individual happiness. It's played for laughs and doesn't try and be deep.
I think enjoying this movie depends on if you can just accept the stupid fun and the dark bits. Cage is his usual self and I enjoyed it.

Good to see Cage in a reasonably decent movie for a change, and he goes into full 'unlocking the cage' ™ mode. However, the film's ending sucks, and that undermines the whole mad affair.

What a complete waste of what could've been a fun twist on those apocalyptic gorefest flicks. Gets off to a strong start, but just completely withers away until you're watching nothing but kids trapped in a house as Nicholas Cage screams at them. I really wanted to see the effect this epidemic was having at the world at large, but we are only given very small pointless glimpses into how this is playing out across the country. Way too much screaming and chasing and not enough real depth. This film could've seriously been trimmed down to about a ten minute runtime, and it would make for a passable if not enjoyable short film.

Bishop shanks Nick Cage repeatedly in a Firebird... Worth it for that alone

wow sometimes parents get angry. Nicolas Cage is the best.but even better when he becomes RAGE CAGE. maybe if he starts a wrestling carrier that should be his name haha loved the movie concept. watch it you gonna laugh.

Nicolas Cage and Selma Blair star in the dark horror-comedy Mom and Dad. When a mysterious signal is broadcast over telecommunications devises parents are suddenly overcome with a drive to kill their children. Cage and Blair give fairly decent performances, but nothing too impressive. And the script seems a little uneven and unfocused; not quite sure of which story to follow, the community or the family, the parents or the children. The violence can get pretty gritty and shocking, and the black humor too is quite edgy. Mom and Dad is incredibly provocative, but while some of it work other parts don’t.

It's a decent film, it's fun, funny, jumpy in areas and the storyline is a first for me; however there's no sypnosis - nothing explaining the plot so you're left with questionmarks... I also think the ending was rushed a little, I'd have liked t see the last 10 minutes or so drag on a little longer. All in all, it's a good watch when you can't think of anything else to do.

I always struggle with how to rate movies like this. It was an absolute blast to watch. Very over the top dark comedy, but one of the funnest movies I've watched in the past year. I'd say it's a 10/10 for fun dark comedy, and much lower if you're looking for anything else from it.

A very very black comedy. Great fun, Selma Blair are Nicolas Cage are brilliant together - they should work together more often!

Mom and Dad is like marrying your lover: exciting at the beginning but it lets itself go and stops trying not long after.

Genuinely thought this was brilliant. It's messed up, Nic Cage is brutal and hilarious and the whole concept is just a complete headtrip. With no explanation and a complete bonkers plot, this movie is a fun ride from beginning to end.

It was the cinematic equivalent of a rage room and was very fun. I would have given it an 8 but the ending ruined it. If you know the ending is awful then that'll make the movie more enjoyable for you. SPOILER They didn't even need 2 minutes to wrap that up, they just needed the kids to shoot the parents and it would have been good. There are enough movies in this genre that we don't need to know what caused it, although it seems like it's something coming from the TV static, similar to the cause in the book "Cell", we just need a movie to be finished for once in my lifetime! I hate this trend!

Interesting concept, just not executed very well.

Being given some info on the cause of the whole scenario would've been nice; it didn’t seem like much thought or planning went into the plot.

WTF kind of ending was this???

The build up with the kids in the basement was too long. Enjoyed the intro to the grandparents. It was fun. The end needs to be redone. If it was going to end as it did then it could have ended a when the kids were trapped in the basement or when the gas went off.
Basically this movie would have been a continued back and forth if they didn’t just cut it off. Shameful.

It wasn’t horrible but I’ve been enjoying funny horror this Spooktober.

P.S. glad to see the black kid didn’t die and I’m pretty sure the only reason those kids are alive lol

I can't remember the last time I saw a movie this bad. Did they run out of money and just stop filming one day?

loading replies

It’s only a short movie, and it feels like it’s about twice as long as it needs to be. It just goes on, and on, and on, and for the love of god just finish it already!

Nicolas Cage barking like a dog while chasing his son is a sign of madness from "Nouveau Shamanic". Gotta try it some day.

I think i need to call my parents ... in all seriousness.. when the grandparents came in. lol. too much. you know what was also too much? a logical ending, because apparently it was too much for the creators to come up with one.

Really enjoyed this movie for what it was! A dark comedy thriller. But the ending just ruins it. Because there isn’t one!

...and Lance Henriksen as Nicolas Cage's dad was brilliant casting.

This is the role Nicolas Cage was born to play. His signature style matches this character as if it was written with him soley in mind. An hour and a half of over the top fun.

This has got to be one of the worst flicks Nick has made to date. They are getting further and further out in left field.

Completely gave up at the end

unpretentious and entertaining movie. To spend the time

I was really excited to watch this movie but got really disappointed. There was no real ending.

This is a fun watch, Cage is worth seeing crazy without going really overboard as in some of his earlier films.. The pace & acting is all good, it’s just as the film ends you realise there’s not much else to it than the message it’s portraying. Nevertheless I’d say it’s a rental at least..

Plot- When mummy's and daddy's finally lose It over their kids the end. Family problems.. pfft! Yeah they wasn't much thought put into the film just full of madness and no story to it but it did try, focused more on the action but I've seen worse also could of been left with a better ending. When It comes to my sense of humour this was an entertaining film, specially the fast paced rage action and (Nicolas cages) actions put me in stitches. If I was gonna give credit to (Brian Taylor) small work, it would be for his (Cranks)

loading replies

Kind of obnoxious with the way Taylor assaults us with his (now it seems) signature frenetic style. It's got an interesting concept, and Cage is hilarious to watch go insane, but it's hindered by a type of filmmaking that should've stayed with the Crank movies.

Despite having quite a lot of flaws this turned out to be quite the fun romp! Kudos to Cage and Blair for turning up for a role like this, it certainly elevated the scenario (which otherwise would probably have been a lot more lowkey).
