Was something missing from this film? Did a load of it get cut out?! What an absolute load of nonsense. Nice film work and all but absolutely rubbish storyline.
The film is terrible. So many interesting ideas were initially included in the film, but they never received development. For example, why did you have to pay attention to the phone of the protagonist? Or the fact that the second husband does not want children (a house without a children's room). But these questions were not developed in the film !!! Moreover, who and why kidnapped the child. 1 out of 10. Wasted time.
The movie is just a rescue mission with a lot of development on the fatherly role. It's a slow movie that feels like way longer and with a very shallow explanation of "why they kidnapped the kid"
the cinematography is gorgeous!
overall it's a ok movie for me, nothing special, but i can see people liking this movie way more than me.
This is both tense and littered with beautiful scenery.
I applaud McAvoy for working without a script but as the script is a bit ‘bare bones’ anyway, he was better off improvising. The film is okay but its all a bit rushed and unclear.
There is one character
There is one plot point
There is no depth or development
Go watch Hinterland or something
Like a cool car driving the speed limit, it doesn't push any barriers but looks good and performs well and that's OK.
A separated couple look for their missing son in this well shot thriller. It stays in its lane but the cinematography is gorgeous and James McAvoy is one of the most underrated actors working today so it doesn't go very far but at least it gets you there in style.
(PS It's a remake of the 2017 French film Mon Garçon, which I also gave a 7.)
The idea of not giving a script to the main lead is interesting as an experiment, but the resulting film was very poor.
The photography was pretty though.
it's as if you are watching a mime. you expect the main character to do that one about being trapped in a box. all very scenic but never really explains itself. left disappointed
McAvoy did a great job making the dialogue up as he went along... the story was OK.
Worth watching.
Not great, but not bad.
James McAvoy and Claire Foy are the main reasons why this remake is surprisingly better than the original. Excellent photography and atmosphere of Highlands.

besides the fact of McAvoy without a script can delivery such a great acting, the story itself is unclear, very very rushed and sometimes no sense...
