The They Shoot Pictures, Don't They? 1,000 greatest films list is primarily compiled by using over 6000 individual critics' and filmmakers' best-films-of-all-time lists/ballots. The resulting list is very diverse and spans virtually all movie-producing decades and countries.

The Sight and Sound poll is now a major bellwether of critical opinion on cinema and this year’s edition (its eighth) is the largest ever, with 1,639 participating critics, programmers, curators, archivists and academics each submitting their top ten ballot. This list represents the results of the 2022 critic's poll, which is the eighth poll overall, and the largest ever, with 1,639 participants. This year is notable for Vertigo falling to the number two slot, replaced by Jeanne Dielman at number one.

Eclipse from the Criterion Collection is a brand for a line of DVD film series released by the Criterion Collection. It debuted on March 27, 2007. The brand was created to produce budget-priced, high-quality DVD editions of hard-to-find films. The DVDs are released in boxed sets that typically contain between two to seven films across and focus on a specific film director. Future sets will also focus on themes. Typically, they are released monthly. In order to keep prices low, the films do not receive the same degree of remastering nor any of the special features that have became associated with Criterion Collection titles.

Events such as the cultural revolution and the abolition of Hay's code contribute to the daring and more experimental nature of films of the 60s which were a prelude to what was to come in the 70s. 70s begins with worldwide major film movements. This period is considered to be the heyday of cinema with the release of many great films that would change the landscape forever.
[This is a series of lists listing films deemed important based on their technical, artistic, historical or cultural significance. This shall also serve as a good resource for film studies however it is extensively based on my own personal preferences.

Over 1000 films got votes, from years as early as 1892 to as recent as 2013. This list is the combined critics and filmmakers list of all films that received 3 or more votes.
