Moral of the story is mind your business.
First, this is not a Paranormal Activity film, IMO the series should have ended when the original story ended in PA 3. (PA 4 was technically a continuation but that was a forced movie trying to save a failed franchise)
My issue is this film is not a PA film, it's just a horror (a bad one at that). My biggest issue with horror movies is once you see the 'big bad' it loses its effect to scare you, up until you see it, sure there are a few albeit forced jump scares, but nothing substantial. Nothing about this movie makes sense. Find a creepy ass hole in the ground? 'Let's go down it! This is our only chance!'
Many people hate the franchise but I believe the first 3 are great, an unseen antagonist causing mayhem.
Please let the franchise die, at this point, they are just throwing the PA name in front of bad horror movies in an attempt to basically click-bait us into that first fear we felt watching PA 1 for the first time.
This one looked like it's going to be one of the better entry in the franchise and after watching the documentary I raised my expectation a little. Guess I was wrong. To me this entry is slightly above The Ghost Dimension and that one is the WORST of the bunch. That's pretty bad. I expected more creativity put into this rebirth but there's really nothing new or exciting here. It's just another found footage film that relies heavily on jumpscares and gives you motion sickness at the very last moment. There's not enough mystery to it and none of the characters are particularly interesting. Judging by the slow motion shots, I don't even think this film try to fully commit to the found footage format at all. The only thing even remotely interesting was the claustrophobia in some parts. Overall it's disappointing and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Not a waste of your time but not a movie to watch again either, it's a Tuesday evening movie if there is such category ;).
Not good, not scary, not a Paranormal Activity movie. Don't waste your time.
This is probably the worst film in the PA franchise. Not horror at all.
Meh. This is really not a Paranormal Activity - it's just a horror movie, and not a great one either. The dark bells sound was the only scary bit. Not recommended.
Hmm acting is ok and that is one of the pluses of this movie. On the other hand I didn't like the poor story. This movie really shouldn't have the name Paranormal activity in it. It doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the PA series at all. And most of all it doesn't create the creepy disturbing atmosphere of the first 3 PA movies. Best to avoid.
This movie only exists to draw people into Paramount+. It is not a Paranormal Activity movie. It's not much of a found footage movie. It's definitely not a consistent or sensible movie, let alone a good one. Why does anything happen? Why was Sarah important and what does that have to do with Margot? Why was that one room haunted, but only that one? If the demon is so powerful, why does it remain trapped? I went into this with low expectations, merely hoping for something familiar to the franchise (if only the format), and it still managed to disappoint me.
I didn’t hate it but there is a lot of missed potential. They coast a bit too much on Amish/village people are creepy, when we have seen this done to much better results in other films. There is a decent build but the movie ends just as things are getting interesting. There’s a fun choice where the movie breaks away from the found footage format and honestly they should have stuck with that through the end and let things play out a bit more.
By the numbers horror movie trotted out for Halloween using the Paranormal Activity brand in name only. Some references are made to the old formula (the salt did make me laugh), but very little here evokes the feeling of the original Paranormal Activity. That being said, I didn't hate my time with Next of Kin. It's a jump scare laden, schlocky horror with the most basic of plots and little innovation. Mediocrity through and through, but wouldn't be out of place in your Halloween viewing queue.
This one didn't felt much paranormal-activity-ish. I think is the first one that has shots outside the "camera-in-hand" pov, which kinda broke the effect. Besides, we all know that PA should have ended like, 3 or 4 movies ago; so nothing new. Pretty much nothing on the "ghost" factor (i believe just one scene in the whole movie is kinda lame). Also, it seems like the girl has NEVER seen an horror movie: creepy closed door room? Lets go check it out. Smaller-even-creepier door in there with blood marks and shit? No problemo, i want to look. Big ass rabbit hole in the middle of a weird creepy church in the middle of fucking nowhere that goes down 30mts and has barely the space for a person?? Sure, push me down, i want to know what's on the bottom . At least, it was a nice change that 2/3 of the main team survived (something that i always despised in the other PA, because you knew that EVERYONE involved would be dead as fuck at the end) . I would say is just Bad Horror Movie - Next of Kin, rather than PA; no more than a 5.
Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin (2023): 4.9/10 (Meh)
This is unlike the franchise's usual style, so I'm not sure why it bears the Paranormal Franchise brand. Even when separated from the franchise, the film fails to impress as a horror thriller. If you thought the characters in the last Paranormal Activity made some odd choices, this one tops them all. “If there's a secret door behind the cabinet, I'll open it. If there's a big hole under the church with marks of sacrifice, I'll go down there.” This was so different from previous entries in the franchise that it actually worked to the film's advantage in building tension, as the viewer never quite knows what to expect. At the film's climax, however, everything falls apart; despite a semi-satisfying twist, the whole thing feels anticlimactic and pointless. I wouldn't recommend this film to anyone, not even the most devoted fans of the franchise, because not only is it mediocre, but it also has nothing to do with the other entries in the series and accomplishes nothing plot-wise.
I saw a couple ankles just saying...
Witness (1985) with demons... But not as good as that sounds.

Surprised by this film. Really enjoyed it.
Average movie… wasn’t like the typical PA-style, but unique in their own way. Would’ve rated higher if it was executed better. Was also confusing at times and felt rushed. I would give it a watch just to see it but if you are a fan of these movies, like I am, don’t expect much.
So this is the Halloween 3 of Paranormal Activity?
Also, you can't do found footage and use camera angles that don't have corresponding cameras.
Paranormal Activity in name only, Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin is an incredibly boring and convoluted horror film. The story follows a young girl who was abandoned at a hospital as a baby and is making a documentary about meeting her relatives for the first time, but the more time she spent with the Amish type community that she came from, the more it starts to show signs of been a religious cult. None of the actors are particularly good and the story isn’t that interesting, and doesn’t tie into the series mythology. Also, being shot as a documentary, the film doesn’t follow the Paranormal Activity format of capturing strange and bizarre occurrences on a camera (usually a stationary one) and investigating it. In fact, the camera work is especially poor; as it’s often difficult to tell where the characters are and what’s happening. Still, there are a couple of exciting action scenes, as well as some interest plot twists. Yet try as it might, Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin is a monotonous found footage film that that doesn’t deliver any scary and is unworthy of the series.
Apart from having absolutely nothing to do with Paranormal Activity, it was an entertaining standard horror movie. With zero scary moments in it.
It’s ok. A little of track from all the other paranormal activity movies, but it’s worth watching.
This entry in the franchise shares many similarities to The Blair Witch Project and is quite different to the earlier PA movies. Its a pretty good entry and is surprisingly funny at times altough the ending leaves a lot to be desired.
not as bad as i expected. i actually liked the effects since they're fully within the realm of any casual filmographer's repertoire these days? story was whatever and acting was whatever but it was entertaining enough, just not at all scary.
WTF WAS THIS PIECE OF SHIT, THIS IS NOT PARANORMAL ACTIVITY,
NOWHERE NEAR.
THIS IS DEFINITELY THE WORST EVER BY MILES OF THE SERIES AND DEFINITELY NEVER EVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE. THIS MAKES
PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2

IT WAS THE WORST ONE.
THE MAIN PROBLEM WITH
7 PANOK
