Paris, 13th District 2021

Love and sexual relationships in a Paris neighborhood.

The portrait of three characters whose lives converge is expressed through a gorgeous B/W cinematography that leaves no doubt about the bitterness of a reality that only adopts colors in the falsity of the digital image, disguised with a wig. But it is not clear what the film has to say about this multicultural youth given over to unrestrained sex. There is pomposity and lack of naturalness, there are forced endings that pervert the meaning of Adrian Tomine's stories and the characters needed to breathe in a more spontaneous staging.

An ensemble film about four young people looking for love and a meaning in modern Paris.
It is the turbulent life in a metropolis, with all its hectic situations, produced in a beautifully subtle way.

Four main characters cross paths within a few months. They get to know each other, exchange beliefs and have sex. A lot of sex…

The events shown feels somehow trivial after a while, after which we start to hope for a serious turnaround. Unfortunately, the film always gets stuck in its initial setup.

Lucie Zhang, who plays Emilie, has a strong acting talent. An Asian actress to follow for sure.

Like reading a Playboy for the articles but the naked pictures keep getting in the way...

Sadly, Olympiades, Paris 13th (the story of 3 people living in the Olympiades neighborhood of Paris's 'Chinatown') is uncomfortable talking about its feelings. Each time an interaction between characters becomes too authentic, the movie avoids the subject and disintegrates immediately into a sex scene. Oh well, at least the actors have nice bodies?
