I loved this film. It's probably an advantage for me that I've not seen the original, and so I had nothing to compare it to, and therefore would never be disappointed. After watching this, I saw the trailer for the original, and was quite surprised by how different it was. I can imagine many people being disappointed, as I was with the new "Jungle Book".
However unlike the new "Jungle Book" this is still a heartwarming film, and so if you keep an open mind, I think most would enjoy it.
Such a heartwarming film, the love between the boy and the dragon is magical... the films sound track is moving... all around brill picture XD
This was a good movie! I enjoyed it, despite an interesting choice to make Elliot a fuzzy (?) dragon. Bryce Dallas Howard gave such a stellar performance I thought she was Jessica Chastain, (high praise) until someone pointed out she was Ron Howard's daughter. Some of you will recognize Karl Urban as Star Trek's Bones (McCoy), and, I don't care how old Robert Redford gets, he's just plain sexy. I give this movie a 7 (good) out of 10.
Pete's Dragon is a touching and sentimental family film everyone can enjoy. It has it's slow points but I was mostly moved by the film throughout with tears constantly running down my face lol.
With a mostly lackluster summer, Pete's Dragon was a real surprise. The performances were pretty solid and you can't help but love this take on Elliot. Despite being big and green, he is a lot like Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon personality wise. But is just as likeable.
The film deserves higher than 65% good reviews here. Some people rating, probably didn't even see the movie. While still blaming Disney why Suicide Squad was rated bad lol.
This was a beautiful, emotion-filled movie - I absolutely loved it! I felt very emotionally involved in the story, strongly feeling both the love and hate that the characters felt, further enhancing my viewing experience. The story was a lovely, heartwarming tale of a boy who can be friends with the most incredible of creatures, aka every child's dream. What more can I say, I thought this was awesome.
Also, the CGI has held up very very well.
It was actually quite charming. A lot more fresh and fun than I was expecting, I wonder why it didn't get more exposure, the kids should love it.
An excellent, family-friendly underseen gem of 2016. A movie with heart and a great soundtrack.
Im a dad, and watched this with my kids...I thought it was great, heartfelt and very fun to watch and well cast too...a darker version for adults could be epic

This is what I would call the perfect family movie. I have two young nieces who are basically scared of everything that happens in movies, and this is the first film that made me think "hey, I could totally watch this with them". It's a very nice and quite "friendly", that's how I would describe it. The visuals are absolutely amazing, Elliot looks so real. I can't figure out how they get it done so well but I love it. It took some time for me to get used to Elliot his appearance though, it sometimes felt a bit like he was part dog, part dragon. Also because I was imagine a friendly "Smaug" so a fluffy Elliot was a whole lot different, but I was diggin' it in the end fo sho. Oakes Fegley his performance as Pete was so good as well as Bryce Dallas Howard her performance as Grace. Those two really stood out for me in this movie, so they deserve the praise. (Oona Laurence and Robert Redford were really cool as well) I really liked the storyline, although it was all kind of predictable and I must say, a bit simple, I really enjoyed it. The only thing that bothered me a bit about this movie was that it felt like everything was taking quite long, it's kind of a slow movie but very enjoyable nonetheless.
I can't wait to watch this with my nieces because I'm sure they are going to love it :-)
Pete's Dragon is a well directed and acted film. The story falls into a very familiar template but there is still some Disney magic in the mix. The end result is a solid film for the whole family with some significant Spielberg influence.

I'm all in for these type of Disney movies but this was not one of the best. A bit bland and boring but nevertheless one family movie to enjoy. The ending was good.
The 1977 Disney original was an all singing and dancing disaster. This, thankfully, is much better but it pulls on the heartstrings too often. It needed a little bit of humour and lightness but played on the sentimental from the beginning. Still good, but younger kids may find it a little traumatic. Excellent special effects and the actor playing Pete is great.
A movie radiating warmth in every shot. Set in the perspective of a child, Pete's Dragon is almost overwhelming for the kids and decent enough for the adults. Great cast, average CGI and some good dialogue bring you in while the paper thin plot is the weakest chain in the link.
Wholesome viewing.
'Pete’s Dragon' is a pleasant film. This remake brings a lot of feels thanks to its hearty narrative. The special effects are nice, as is the score - particularly towards the end. The cast isn't all-star but they all do good jobs.
Oakes Fegley gives a sweet performance as Pete, though it's Bryce Dallas Howard who is probably the film's standout. I also enjoyed Robert Redford's role (Meacham) in this, though it would've been nice to have seen him utilised more - the same could be said for all bar Pete, in truth.
There are some neat scenes in this, even if it is a film that does feel like it takes different elements from different films in parts - e.g. 'The Jungle Book' and 'E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial'. A few of the characters aren't written to perfection, but not to the degree of it becoming an irritation.
Touching. Worth a watch, for sure.

If you get past Americans wanting to shoot anything alive and talking about it like it’s normal, and the songs trying to force you to be sad, then it’s ok. There’s smarter kids movies out there.
It has to be said I am not the target audience for his film so my opinion is very much moot. Had I been about the same age as the child protagonists I would probably have really liked the film a great deal more than I did.
The first big stumbling block for me was the sense of belief in Elliot himself. A furry cat-like dragon, that chases his tail, he looks very much like Shrek but even more troubling was he dumbish animal or a more sentient being? It seemed to vary from scene to scene. The effects of Elliot were as usual top notch.
Any film with best frowner in the business, Karl Urban, certainly couldn’t be all and bad and overall the cast, including the children, certainly put the effort in – even Bryce Dallas Howard an actor that I have problems felt more accessible and likable in this movie.
Despite the tear-jerking premise and the desperate appeal to children the makers were creating there was something slight and soulless about the film. It felt more industrial, churned out of a Disney conveyor belt.
With a stellar adult cast and good child actors, competent special effects it must be said Disney missed the target. Mainly the characterisation of the dragon is the grit in the gears seemingly unsure of his behaviour from moment to moment. A simple error to correct and disappointing more detail seemingly was not given to the main character.
Children of a certain age will like Pete’s Dragon, they will laugh at the sneezing and be scared by the bad adults and cry at the sad scenes – most adults will yearn for home soon after the opening credits.
Get that kid a haircut!
This remake of the disney classic is wrong on so many levels starting with the fact that the very magic of the original version stood in the fact that it was definately unrealistic and kitsch ... This version is too serious, too polished and spoiled from all the poetry that made the first one so great. I didn't have a laugh, didn't get a smile, would not sing along... neither would my kids… shame…
Touching movie, it wasn't necessarily bad or good, but it was just a bit slow for me, but I'd definitely recommend seeing it!
This was one of my favorite childhood movies! Looking forward to viewing it, in English!!
