The opportunity that I had to watch this movie was rare because I had not heard much about this other than it was a strange cross between science fiction and horror. After viewing it I think what stood out for me the most was the way the movie redefines what humans are and the standing on the head of humanity's interpretation of "the devil".
The psychic transfer of the other beings memories to Barbara and their subsequent playback to an audience of scientists and officers is truly creepy. Even though the beings are not the most convincing special effect of all time the "recording" of the last days of life on Mars is surreal and absolutely otherworldly. The filmmakers managed to make viewing the recording feel like we are getting a glimpse into a past from thousands and thousands of years ago. The Martian apparition near the end of the film is truly eerie as well.
"Quatermass and the Pit" is a very original movie with some truly fantastic ideas.
Classic 1960s SciFi. A must for all fans of this genre, and 1960s films. Shot in colour, which for British films of this era, was still a rarity, it has a gripping story, which keeps you guessing until the very end!
It's good but not dated particularly well in terms of it takes a hell of along time to get where its going.
I remember Quatermass and the Pit scared the shit out of me as a kid. It might not be as scary now as it was back then, but it's still a very good film. There's something about the atmosphere and the fantastic script that makes Quatermass and the Pit one of Hammers best. Highly Recommended!!!

It's got such an incredibly awesome premise, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. I was soo bored by the end of it, I was tempted to turn it off. It's bland, tepid and features some really cruddy special effects. I would love to see a remake, as the concept is primed for something truly great.

I've heard how great this movie is for years. I think it would be tough to live up to that reputation. ...and it didn't.
