I agree about the last part. The rest wasn't that scary.
[REC] is definitely one of the better zombie movies. The claustrophobic atmosphere was really effective.
Shat my pants watching this in a dark room at 5 AM
This movie is an experience. It stands out because it has strong characterization, and a rather well orchestrated buildup.
Sadly, it was also remade into the complete and utter piece of shit "quarantine". Unfortunate because I really used to scare the shit out of people with this years ago :) but now they go "oh wait I've seen this" but it was the horrid remake.
In closing, if you liked "The Descent" (2005) and other modern style violent thrillers, treat yourself to this. It has a 7.6 on imdb with 56k votes for a reason.
That is aún amazing horror movie. First person like the viewer is the principal character. By moment seems like a Silent Hill videogame the horror, suspense, tension, and a claustrophobic feeling every scene. The attic moment when fall down a stair and show under the light of lantern a zombie boy is the best horrible moment of the movie
Great surprise this movie. Very interesting and frightening. Amazing.
I was never really a fan of the found footage genre because I find more often than not it's just used to excuse a low budget, bad acting, and a bunch of filler dialogue, but this movie is honestly a masterpiece of the horror genre as a whole. It does so much with a single small apartment and what I found most impressive was that it didn't resort to some contrived scenario where the protagonist is for some reason alone and cut off from the outside world--no, all the apartment residents are present and there's constant communication with the police outside the walls, so the fact that the movie can still remain tense and scary is no small feat.
ساعة و ربع ! صارت فيه كل هالأشياء من أفلام الزومبي اللي يستاهل الواحد يشوفها
Constant shouting, shaky camera, and very annoying main character make this movie not enjoyable to watch. Got a headache after watching this movie :( Weak sauce.
I really liked it. Great found footage horror movie. A late night TV news show crew is doing a piece on some firefighters that work the night shift. They get a call to an apartment building and things... go horribly. Took a little while to get moving, but damn did it deliver. The last maybe ten to fifteen minutes were incredible. Really want to see the next in the series.
Hard to knock the movie for this, but the English overdubbing took me out of the movie a few times. The version I rented (on Prime) didn't have an option for having the original Spanish with subs. If you can get 'em, watch with the subs.
Other reviewers have said it is the best "found footage" film they have seen, I would go beyond that and say it's the best and scariest horror film I have ever seen, by far.
I definitely recommend this, if you are looking for a terrifying film then this will not disappoint.
It is a cool approach to the found footage genre, and, while everyone apparently agree that the second part was better, I don't. First one is much more scary because nobody knows what in hell is going on. Then, they explain it and even adds an unnecessary layer of catholic mysticism by the very end, which just makes it goofy.
Álex: “What's your show called?”
Ángela: “While You're Asleep.”
Manu: “While You're Asleep? Then who watches it?”
REC might be one of the best-found footage horror films ever. Saying I was scared is an understatement; my soul left my body. The movie is pure fear and suspense.
At the same time, it does follow the found footage structure with the build-up that leads into the events. However, what made this different was how real it felt sometimes, with character moments, a subtle sense of humor between them, and reactions. The acting from everyone is fantastic.
The zombies are terrifying and menacing. In one part, the characters look down a stairwell and see all the zombies staring at them. It was freaky stuff. I liked that whenever a character dies, there’s no goodbye or heroic sacrifice. Nope, they’re just gone, and the situation feels helpless.
The choices in lighting for scenes helped create the atmosphere and used darkness to make scary visuals. The film takes place in an actual building in Spain called the Cedimatexsa Building, in which the filmmakers used tight and almost claustrophobic space effectively.
If you haven’t seen REC before and fancy having nightmares, give it a shot.
Happy Halloween everyone! :jack_o_lantern:
nice take on the zombie genre. the last part was terrifying. must-watch for any found footage/horror enjoyer.
A pretty solid found footage-esque movie with a lot of pretty good scares. I will say there's a lot of screaming and stuff which kind of hurt my head but helps show just how chaotic things are. Overall, I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoyed these types of movies.
Well done found footage horror from the 2000s that starts slower but ratchets up horror to a terrifying conclusion.
There really isn't much to critique here, in my opinion. Simply put, this is found footage done right. You know exactly what to expect and yet it still delivers. I don't know that I've watched enough found footage horror to state whether this is the best. However, it's very good.
Really, my only gripe is the actions of some of the characters (shocking for a horror film, right?). I understand the first two guys that get infected because they didn't know what to expect. But the cop that kneels down to get face to face with the little girl that literally bit her mother just moments previously?? And the doctor has sense to handcuff two infected people to the table but not to tell the others to avoid leaning over and exposing their necks to the mouths of the infected?? Then when the doctor gets bitten, he puts himself in a room he knows won't contain him instead of, I don't know, leaving the apartment?? Ah well, what can you do? Maybe it wouldn't truly be horror without some silly shenanigans.
I actually shrieked out loud with that terrifying jump scare in the attic. No other horror has made me do that since the evil dead when I was a kid. One or two other great jump scares throughout as well. Towards the end it got frighteningly scary. What makes this different is that it’s believable, yet it’s zombies. How many zombie films have you seen that look and feel realistic? The whole apartment block being quarantined & blocked off due to a dangerous virus. I dislike found footage but this was one of the best horrors I’ve ever seen. Can’t wait to see the follow up. 9.6/10.
A wild and scary found footage zombie horror. It takes a while to pick up and I got a little tired of all the interviews at the beginning but once the action starts it doesn't let go until the very end. The third act was by far my favorite part of the movie it was quite scary. Needs to be watched in a dark room. That old woman was so creepy.
Horf. I appreciate found footage, but a lot of them make me motion sick, so I'm glad this one was as short as it was. That said, it was a great movie! The mundane first 15-20 minutes had my attention wandering a bit, but then it got really interesting. That shot down the stairwell of all the zombified people, including the fireman we'd JUST seen alive, was chilling, very well done. If you like found footage horror, and/or zombies, give this movie a go, I don't think you'll regret it.
I do kind of wish it hadn't added the demonic possession bit at the end, that sort of thing immediately launches it into the realm of impossibility for me, which makes it less scary. If it was just some sort of bodily fluid-borne pathogen that made people super aggressive and bitey, that would've been much better. Why was there a boy in the attic? Who was the skeletal lady at the end? She seemed to have been a zombie for quite a while, but there was no explanation for either of these things. The boy didn't even do anything except punch the camera and break the light.

✓Script (history) and Performances:[0.9]
A film with a realistic fictional/documentary footprint very well executed through the same camera lens, apparently.
The fact that we only see what this lens is seeing is a great insight, especially since it doesn't appear to be edited. The camera was turned on and off frantically.
Manuela Velasco did very well and I was curious to see Pablo's face kkkk
In the end, it seems to me that the principal wants to criticize the fact that the church calls a possible viral illness that causes extreme anger to be possessed, but it just seemed to me. I may be quite wrong.
✓Theme(Direction):[0.8]
A common occurrence becomes a kind of endemic due to lack of information from the police. After that there is no lesson to be taught. It's just the press, police and firefighters playing their role,
The idea of doing the interviews and continuing to justify the use of the camera was the great success of this film.

In its day it was a very good zombie movie, using the “Found Footage” genre. It has not aged badly at all, but the performances always on the verge of hysteria are tiring and do not help you to enter the plot. Still much better than what I've seen new lately.
Absolutely terrifying, [REC] is a gritty Spanish horror film. Shot as found footage, television reporter Angela Vidal goes out on a routine call with a group of firefighters to a Barcelona apartment building while filming the daily life of a firehouse, but things turn deadly when a ravenous woman attacks them. Manuela Velasco gives a strong performance and has a natural charisma that helps with the found footage conceit. Additionally, the directing style has an authentic feel to it. However, the characters aren’t really developed; which makes it hard to care all that much about them. Still, [REC] is full of tension and delivers some frightful scares.
Intense zombie flick shot in Found Footage style. I usually dislike zombie movies because they are mostly just gory but there are some big scares in this. The ending is about as frightening of a conclusion as I can remember seeing from a movie made in the last couple of decades.
REALLY REALLY AWESOME ONE OF THE BEST HAND CAM MOVIE'S THERE IS, LOVED THE LITTLE GIRL DOING HER THING
FOR WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE WORLD RIGHT NOW IN ALL OUR LIVES WITH THE

Handheld POV horror from Spain, in which a small, unwitting television crew tails a pair of firemen into the mouth of madness. The Blair Witch / Paranormal Activity thing has been done a dozen times over by now, with varying degrees of believability and success, but this is one of the better examples of what the format can do. Starting slow with a series of missed cues and tame vignettes for the camera that introduce the primary characters, (a cute minor TV personality and the two generic firemen who allow her to tag along for the evening) it slowly, deliberately adds new faces and developments, building tension until everything finally boils over in a geyser of chaos and terror.
Working wonders with a small cast of unknowns, it wrings every bit of potential out of an admirably simple concept without stretching beyond its means. The storyline is equal parts quiet suspense and startling horror, masking its budgetary shortcomings with a temperamental light source and a set of large-lunged ladies. I'm not often one to take the bait and jump during this kind of flick, but even I have to admit it caught me once or twice. A solid, entertaining ball of dread that reaches and surpasses the limits of its overplayed genre, it's great material for a dark, windy night at home.
One of the best horror movies ever made
Complete Bullshit! Wasted my time on this crap.
I never get tired of watching this movie. It's the best I've seen, next to Quarantine (although they're pretty much the same) Great.
Made me feel sick! All the running around made me want to puke by the end, I'm not exaggerating!
Not bad for a Halloween horror movie, been on my watchlist for a while. The only scare I got was right at the end, last 5-10mins is the best.
