Epic filmmaking--I can't imagine the process of filming that many action shots of that many cattle. The story's been done before, of course--this is Mutiny on the Bounty Goes West--but it takes nothing away from the power of the characters and the scope of Hawks' vision. Montgomery Clift feels like he descended from outer space (in a good way) and contrasts beautifully with Wayne's stodgy (in a mostly good way) performance quality. The ending here disappoints (and I wish Cherry Valance played a bigger role as Matt's subtextual love interest), but this holds up as one of my very favorite Westerns.
Very solid Classic epic western, if a little predictable.
I always love seeing Walter Brennan in this type of old western.

Great and epic film from the west. Well done and directed, one of the best roles of John Wayne
