Nothing less than perfect !
Only regret that it took me a decade to stumble on it, but i am still extremely happy i did eventually.
WOW this is one epic racing movie! I found this movie by accident a few hours ago and i have to say that this is one of the best racing movies i have ever seen!
The animation is beautiful. I can see that those 7(!) years in production have certainly paid off. Its over the top, realistically impossible and i love it! This is a movie that has to be watched at a big screen tv and at 1080P. Anything else will be an insult to this beautiful movie that deserves nothing else.
Considering that this movie was in production for 7 years i feel that the story could have been better. Most likely most of those 7 years were spent on animating the movie. The movie relies very heavily on the animation and not the story. Also there are a few cliché characters in the movie, but they are not that annoying. All in all the animation really is really the one thing that carries this movie forward, which is why i gave it a perfect 10.
A few years back i saw the movie Speed Racer and although there are some similarities with that movie this one is nothing like it. Its easy a hundreds times better. Whoever likes fast cars, explosions and anime should watch this movie. You won't regret it.
This Movie symbolizes everything I've ever wanted in my life. A collective passion, fueled by unchecked late stage capitalism, featuring the most diverse cast of awful people all fiending to get their fix. Engaged in the most platonic ideal of competition one can imagine.
Seeing this film again fixed my mental health.
Peak of japanese animation. The author really tought :"waith, this is an animation film, i can make wathever the fuck i want happen on the screen" and really made whathever the fuck he wanted happen on the screen. Masterclass in pacing and animation, aiming to be a more "fun" type of film, it always respects the audience and never explains whats happening with usless "explaination" type of scenes.
A rare gem that shows everyone what making a "fun" movie means.
Do i put this film in the olympus of animation films? Yeah, fuck you it fucking deserves it.
Ps watch it in a language that you can understand, film is unwatchable with subtitles
Absolutely bonkers movie. It’s just straight up fun with non stop thrills. This is so much more than a racing movie. It’s got love, war, kaijus, technology and much more. Love the animation, especially during the nitro boosts. Creature and car design are all very original. The plot is straightforward but still really entertaining. I love that things get thrown at you out of nowhere. I will definitely be rewatching this soon.
Rated a Connor 10, normal 9
An interplanetary outlaw space race draws fame and fortune for its participants, though some seem willing to eschew the former in favor of more latter. JP is one such shady customer, a perennial runner-up who’s never qualified for the grand finals because his connections in organized crime make better profits that way. When the tour chooses an aggressively unwilling planet for this season’s big race, however, many participants fear military intervention and drop out. That opens a longshot opportunity for JP to finally realize his dream, but also a fresh chance for his backers to rake in the big bucks, should he once again come up short.
Animated by the highly-regarded animation studio Madhouse, Redline was in development for seven years and that dedication is evident in the details. It’s a gorgeous anime, as smooth and stylish as they come, with all manner of wild angles and camera effects realized in every hand-drawn cel. The speedway teems with action, crowding the screen with precise linework and vivid imagination, but while beautiful, all those hours of artistic obsession also work against it. The piles of flexing carburetors, glimmering headlights and twitchy, whitened knuckles quickly feel overwhelming and disorienting. Doubly so when subtitles enter the fray. There’s just too much going on; no place for the eye to rest and no time for the audience to catch its breath.
Not that the story demands much study. No, it’s total nonsense, barely more than a simple excuse to bump us from one strobe-light music-video montage to the next. For those looking for a sheer visual treat, you’re in luck, though you’ll no doubt exit the experience feeling exhausted. Just remember to check your brain at the door... or ignore the subtitles altogether. It’ll make your life a whole lot easier.

Damn, Redline was one epic movie. I can't believe it took me so long to check this out. The animation is out of this world (those 7 years of production did not go to waste) and the whole movie just oozes style. I'm not even a fan of racing but this had me at the edge of my seat the whole time. Also, that OST was just bumpin'. I'm still listening to REDLINE DAY (feat. Rob Laufer) from the credits as we speak (click below). Madhouse can do no wrong.
