Run Lola Run 1998

What if "Groundhog Day" were a late-80s German gangster thriller with a pumping techno soundtrack, a nerve-shredding adrenaline-fuelled premise and a few surprises thrown in? That's "Lola Rennt" for you! :)

Not entirely sure why people liked this movie.

A movie that works with butterfly effect better than The Butterfly Effect and with less than 15% of budget.
You add that with a good action, a good story and you will have Run Lola Run.

I’m pretty sure I’m in the minority on this one but this film was only OK for me. The positives were the fast pace, an interesting take on the butterfly effect, and good visuals. The negatives for me was the initial problem/who accidentally leaves 100k behind, and character choice’s thereafter left me a bit disconnected from the viewing.

Run Lola Run has some of the best pacing I've seen.

Dynamic in its editing and how the soundtrack goes in sync with the dialogue and action of the scenes. The flow, visuals, and rhythm are fantastic to watch and experience.

But even with its entertaining endurance, there is a complexity to the story and nuances to the characters, just presented uniquely. I feel I will pick up more on another re-watch. Now, that is a sign of a great movie.

This is absolutely unique movie with great atmosphere and sountrack that collides perfectly with streets of Berlin. Lola rennt is great in its approach to every aspect of the movie. The editing is precious and I love how it captures the feeling of the city.

Also the first repetitive movie I don’t hate but actually love. Groundhog day is a nightmare for me. I hate these things but Lola here did great job! Also it’s all about butterfly efect but iˇfor me personally it’s a little bit better that the movie “Butterfly effect” since it’s less depressing and overall somehow more captivating.

These premises never seem to fully click with me.
Idk, I just find this film, Edge of Tomorrow and Groundhog Day all a little too repetitive and lacking in propulsive energy.
It’s stylish and very 90s, though it can also be a little excessive at times.
It’s literally shot and edited like a music video for a 90s alternative band, and there’s constantly techno and breakbeat music playing in the background.
I like the two main characters, the acting’s pretty solid, and it definitely has a visceral and exciting quality about it, but what exactly did we accomplish with this butterfly effect gimmick?
Sure it’s kinda fun, but does it make up for the fact that you’re watching the same thing over and over again with some tweaks?
Still pretty decent though.

5.5/10
