The first one is better? Yeah, but that doesn't mean Scream 2 is bad, quite the opposite, it's amazing!

Sidney is more prepared to face the assassin, although she's not expecting this to happen again. Gale starts again as a greedy bitch but in the end she has a good heart. Randy's character is great, they could've kept him alive more time :( .

The car accident scene is super tense, it gives the creeps. One of the best of the entire genre.

I liked the metalanguage and the whole conversation about sequels in movie history, and of course, the infamous phone calls.

Where most sequels fail to deliver, Scream 2 doesn't disappoint.

It’s funny that the characters discuss all the rules for a successful sequel while the film is moving in the opposite direction. So dull and slow-paced that I struggled to stay awake. The idea to turn Ghostface into a movie franchise inside the film’s world was enjoyable, even if a little underdeveloped. The third one will do better with that. The ultimate joke is that Sid is more badass than the killer.

Solid sequel for something that was pushed out a year after the first, doesn’t overshadow the first in any way but also doesn’t really need to, gets points for referencing House: The Second Story

Scream 2: where they suddenly remembered to finally cast some people of color.

Dewey must be immortal or something

3 Thoughts After Re-Watching ‘Scream 2’:

  1. Scream 2 is a stellar sequel. Probably my fave sequel of any film (equal maybe to ‘Batman Returns’). It upped the ante in every way Randy detailed, and then some. I would argue that it’s even better than the original.

  2. This second entry solidified Sidney Prescott as a bona fide badass. She’s right up there with Ellen Ripley and Sarah Conner — and it needs to be talked about more.

  3. There’s a certain choreography to these films that I love. The movement through the school scene with Dewey and Gale kept me on the edge of my seat when I first saw it in the theaters. Epic stuff.

This feels a little too similar to the first only not as good but still entertaining. Also if I went to go see a movie and the crowd was going crazy like they were at the beginning of the movie I would lose my shit.

Streamed via HBO Max

Catching up before it's leaving HBO Max. My first time watching this and I'm impressed! Definitely one of the better sequels in the horror genre. I had so much fun. It's just as good as first film, but this time it mocks itself and we got to see more depth to the returning characters. I find the mystery aspect to be better in this one because everyone's guessing and I have no choice but to guess who's the killer. They're not much different but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's still a good comedy and a great slasher. I'm glad seeing Dewey again!

"Its a classic case of life, imitating art, imitating life."

This is one of the better horror sequels out there. Nothing beats the original, but the way they went about it is still fun and still pretty meta. The classroom scene where they are just sitting around talking about movies and their sequels is still one of my favorite scenes.

Scream 2 is a fantastic sequel, more awesome references, one brutal kill, one hell of a tense scene inside a car were Sidney and Hallie have to crawl over Ghostface to escape, really an awesome scene, Wes Craven makes us laugh at the end with how Mickey came back, an epic cast for a horror movie, Courteney Cox's Friends colleagues are getting name dropped. Billy's mother acting like Jason's Mum! More blood, another fantastic first 15 minutes, this one was so great!

Anyway, this was a fun and fantastic rewatch. To release such a good sequel one year later is really fantastic. Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson did a fantastic job!

Ps. Buffy could've put up a better fight right?

Not as good as the first, but a solid sequel that is hard to hate.

Oh man, this movie is still good!

Also still the latest good (original) slasher franchise if you ask me (Hostel doesn't really feel like a slaher I think)

Secuela, esta vez Ghostface persigue a Sidney(protagonista) hasta la unifersidad, aunque esta vez tendra nuevos y viejos aliados y el malo tendrá un rostro nuevo.

Not everything in the movie worked. Like the Jerry O'Connell singing "I think I love you!" scene. Scream 2 at least packs more scares than Scream 3 or 4. While Timothy Olyphant and Jamie Kennedy had pretty good one liners.

Holy crap! Better than the first.

Scream 2 is decent but too meta for it’s own good, to the brink of being ridiculous

8/10
Great
NOT AS GOOD OR AS SLICK AS THE FIRST
AND IT SUFFERED WITH PACING DIFFICULTIES
BUT STILL IT'S A GREAT SEQUEL.
KICKED ASS WHERE IT SHOULD,
OLD AND NEW FACES WE SEE.
THEY STUCK WITH THE
FORMULA THAT WORKS AND IS PROVEN.
JKX (RANDY) WAS AWESOME AS ALWAYS, WISH HE WAS IN IT LONGER, HE'S MY FAVOURITE, LOVED THE CAR ACCIDENT SCENE, THAT WAS SUPER COOL. 98% OF EVERYTHING WORKED, AND THIS ENTRY WAS DEFINITELY WORTHY OF BEING PART OF THE SCREAM FRANCHISE. I LOVE HOW THEY ARE RUNNING WITH IT NOW WITH THE STAB MOVIE'S THE WOOD BOOKS, RETELLING NUMBER 1, IT JUST SHOWS CONFIDENCE IN IT'S SELF AND IT UNDERSTANDS WHAT IT IS,
MORE IMPORTANTLY IT KNOWS
HOW FRICKING AWESOME IT IS AS A FRANCHISE, OH AND COTTON IS PHENOMENAL HIS PERFORMANCE
IN THIS WAS AMAZING,
(AND WHAT AN AWESOME SHOT
I MIGHT ADD). JUST GIVE THE GUY HIS 15MINS ALREADY, HE'S MORE THAN EARNED IT AND THEN SOME.

This Makes A Hell Of A Movie".

Scream 2 delivers another thriller that’s a lot of fun. This time a copycat killer is reprising the Ghostface killings on the campus of Sidney's new college. The cast has a good mixture of returning stars, such as Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, and Jamie Kennedy, and new stars, like Sarah Michelle Gellar, Timothy Olyphant, and Rebecca Gayheart. It’s hard for a sequel to repeat the same scares as the original, and the kills in this film don’t quite measure up to those of the original. However, it does a fair job at creating a fresh new story while remaining true to the series formula. Additionally, the film offers some interesting satire on horror movie sequels. So while Scream 2 isn’t as thrilling and well-crafted as the original, it’s still an enjoyable slasher with some good scares.

Can't remember why exactly (long time no see!) but I quite liked this flick as a teen! A good sequel!!!

"Everybody dies but us, we get to carry on and plan the sequel. Because let's face it baby, these days you gotta have a sequel."
"Who'd want to do that? Sequels suck! By definition alone they're inferior films."

"Don't blame the movies. Movies don't create the psychos. They make the psychos more creative."
"It's a classic case of life imitating art imitating life."
Another attempt to enter horror, and as an addition here, sequels into the annals of film theory and criticism. Discussing this time what makes sequels stand in their own and which have failed on the past. Further stepping into the realm of criticism touching on the idea of horror and gore influencing people to dark deeds even going as far to say it could be used as a defense in court. That hasn't been done before.

This sequel did everything right. I was not expecting that.

The first scene is the perfect beginning for a sequel to “Scream.” I cannot stress enough how perfectly this movie begins, and I love its overall premise. It’s also fantastic that the film-aware moments and comments have anything but diminished.

Oh, and that scene with the cop car was a horrifying situation. Bravo!

Amazing sequel, love that they made "Stab", Dewey is such an amazing character.

The reveal / killers aren't as iconic as the first one but overall I love this one nearly as much as the first one.

loading replies

The reveal is so stupid that I'm surprised no one here has a problem with it. Still fun until the third act, though.

loading replies

Following up one of the best ever horror movies, this sequel keeps the same feel, great cast, and continues where the first left off! While it can’t possibly reach the heights of the first in an iconic level criteria, it’s damn good.

Rating: 4.5/5 - 9/10 - Highly Recommend

Almost as bad as Scream 1, but noticed an improvement in the suspense scenes and felt the story was taken a bit more seriously. Though, most of the gore scenes were hilarious for how bad they were, specially the final ones (when Mickey gets up, open arms, half an hour after being shot by the local journalist, wtf).

"Bitch, hang the phone up and star-69 his ass. Damn."

Bigger body count, more eleborate kills, more blood, more gore, more characters and more meta. Scream 2 didn't reach the original's heights but overall it's a very respectable sequel that just keeps the magic of the first going. The story and twists were compelling and the PTSD approach was interesting. What really propels it is it's characters though, there's a lot of them and they're easy to root for.

I can't imagine how cool it must of been to watch the opening in a theater, you'd be in a theater watching people in a theater who are also watching a movie. Also I can't watch it without thinking of Brenda (Scary Movie). The car scene is always the most tense for me and the minivan scene is a heartbreaker for the franchise. Epic over-the-top score, intense chase scenes, darker tone, well-paced and great killer motive. Great twist but the third act felt like a soap opera a little.

Aliens is a great sequel!

The sequel to the 1996 cult horror film works much better than it should, considering the rushed production history. Despite a tight schedule and several script revisions, the meta-humor and characters remain very effective. "Scream 2" is consistently entertaining, even if the quality doesn't quite match that of its predecessor. It also plays very well with the audience's expectations of what a horror sequel should look like. Even though the whodunit reveal left me a bit indifferent this time, the second film in the franchise is still good.
