It's the land of hospitality... unless you don't belong there.
A squad of National Guards on an isolated weekend exercise in the Louisiana swamp must fight for their lives when they anger local Cajuns by stealing their canoes. Without live ammunition and in a strange country, their experience begins to mirror the Vietnam experience.

Ok/Good. Not brilliant. It's compared to Deliverance a lot. I prefer this to Deliverance. The characters here are more cliché but least they interact a lot more. We see some sides to them. The journey is more interesting but it ramps up near the end with ridiculous fighting and by characters gers becoming clichés of war horrors rather than the suspense of the situation, and of which means a more realistic situation. Dialogue was acceptable. Did I believe in the nightmarish journey? They're too weak as soldiers and whole situation becomes completely exaggerated in the last half. Almost a spoof as they are outclassed by some cajuns and the dialogue becomes a copy of every war film... we're gonna make it I swear!
The movie gets negativity from some people because they don't like how it portrays the soldiers. People say they're too dumb and it's insulting. For me (my logic) the soldiers in the movie came across as quite amateurish and almost like hobby soldiers. Whether that's accurate or not I wouldn't know. Probably not but I managed to enjoy the movie more believing that.

Loved this film as a 10 year old on VHS..one of the first we rented. Stayed in my mind for a long while..even got me into Cajun music and have trips to New Orleans, Bought the UK Bluray...still only got mono 2,0 audio which is a shame, The picture is about as good as its gonna get.
