great movie. a must see!! basically nwa history
A very fun and faithful biopic. The performances were good all around Jason Mitchell as Eazy-E definitely stole the show. I enjoyed the movie but I wish they had spent less time glorifying their protagonists and more time focusing on the social issues such as issues with the police. As it was it had a few powerful scenes showcasing police brutality, but I feel it should have focused on that more. As it was it felt like a nice biopic, but it could have been more powerful if they spent less time showing parties and more time showing issues. Overall it's fun and well acted, I enjoyed it.
Positively surprised! I can't vouch for the historical accuracy but it was a great as a film - nice shots, the right amount of humour, drama and action. The way they put in the music was brilliant and I liked the private story mixed with the political - because rap is political.
After the two excellent "8 Mile" and "Notorious B.I.G", here we go with this new movie about Dre, Cube and Eazy-E. The great soundtrack and the good acting performance make that movie really dope!
Very good movie , well acted. Story does not let up from start to finish.
Very Hollywood and polished, with the story based on true events rather than being a retelling, but still every bit as fascinating.
It's an entertainment movie but it's Dre propaganda, really.
An incredible biopic about one of the most influential rap groups of all time. The movie tells the story of N.W.A., their struggles, and successes, and it's a must-watch for any fan of old-school rap. Jackson's performance as Ice Cube is exceptional, and he brings his father's story to life on screen with authenticity and passion. The film's focus on the group's background and how they became successful despite the odds stacked against them is truly inspiring. It's a great movie that captures the spirit of N.W.A. and the era they represented.
This movie is everything that Bohemian Rhapsody wasn’t
Absolute classic! Love the origin story. Casting, movie plot, etc. all was perfect!
The most gangsta movie of all times
If you love hip hop music you'd love this movie for sure.
Great cast ; great story and I've learned some stuff I didn't know about NWA.
I highly recommand this movie
I LOVE THIS FILM AND IT IS ESSENTIAL FOR ALL HIP HOP FANS :)
That's all I have to say really, definitely check out the directors cut when you can but the theatrical version is definitely slicker and the directors cut extends some scenes that don't need it but add some laughs and also emotion.
Quality film.
I thoroughly enjoyed 'Straight Outta Compton', it had me gripped all the way through. That's despite me having little to no knowledge of N.W.A, I knew of their name and of Ice Cube and Dr. Dre but basically zilch about their actual story. I couldn't comment on how true it is to history, but as a film it's fantastic.
You have great performances from O'Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell and Paul Giamatti. Mitchell impressed me most as Eazy-E, while the casting of Jackson as Ice Cube - his father, of course - was a masterstroke. All the cast do very well, in truth.
I love how gritty the film is too, it feels real - at least as real as film can get. There is some neat cinematography in there, while the music is entwinned nicely. The pacing is almost perfect, aside from a few moments in the middle. I also rate how it all ends, in terms of the story but also with the end credits. There's heart in there.
well, this is my Christmas movie.
y'all better remember the name Dr. Dre.

The film is almost a documentary about the history of the NWA.
I really liked it.

Day 8:
The (mostly) true story of N.W.A is the sort of film that never let's up. There is no real downtime within the near two and half hour run time. For fans of classic hip-hop this feels like a non-stop roller coaster ride through iconic stories and important moments in the genre's rise into the mainstream. That said I can totally imagine that for someone who is less familiar with the key players in the story the fast paced nature may be slightly off putting.
Personally, I think this might be one of the best musician bio-pics ever made and a must see for all hip-hop fans.
This is the second time I've seen F. Gary Gray's biopic about N.W.A, the Los Angeles hip-hop outfit which became a critical part in making rap music and accepted art form and part of the mainstream music scene.
The casting is spot on, making the younger versions of Eazy E, Dr Dre, Ice Cube, and DJ Yella completely plausible and even likeable young men. I could watch Paul Giamatti in just about anything as he is one of the best character actors alive, and his performance as Jerry Heller, N.W.A's first manager, oozes compassion and experience.
The film doesn't shy away from the violence and drug use which was so prevalent in the lives of men like the founding members of N.W.A – indeed it makes the lyrics, attitudes and behaviour more understandable – so is an important part of documenting the rise of West Coast rap artists.
Perhaps the most impressive parts of the film are the live performances, particularly the Detroit concert when they disobeyed the police's order not to play 'Fuck tha Police'.
It would be easy for a biopic like this to become bogged down in familiar clichés and tropes, so it's to F. Gary Gray's credit that it feels fresh, provocative, and exciting all the way through to the moving final segment focusing on Easy E's death and Dr Dre's rise to superstardom.
The film is beautifully shot by acclaimed cinematographer Matthew Libatique, has a superb score by Joseph Trapanese, and the use of original music is smartly blended into the performances by the actors, giving the movie an authenticity and sense of familiarity which is invaluable. I highly recommend it to everyone, regardless of your feelings about hip-hop/rap music.
Having very little knowledge of the history of NWA, Dre and Ice Cube, I really can't comment on the authenticity of the content but as a film it was definitely worth the watch.
A long film, but it could have been longer. Seems to skip ahead too many times, so we never quite get to know the members of NWA as well as we might. Still, it is a good film, and while it didn't convert me to rap music, I still enjoyed watching the film.
Por favor. Dubla este filme.
I don't know if this movie was accurate about history events but i am sure this is a superb movie you are going to like for sure.Even if you don't like rap you are not going to feel bored or something.8.5/10
vraiment un bon film a voir je le conseil
This is the real history of hip hop! Great movie.
amazing reality check movie really reflection of their lifestyle
Ghurghgh. I loved N.W.A. for their gall, anger and methods, but hated their misogyny. Still, this film focuses on that, disses MC Ren's abilities to lift the group after Dre left, and yeah, there's more misogyny here, still. Drab. Sad. The best bits are of the band shaping their first album. The rest should be read in books and preferably forgotten. It's not hard to see why Ice Cube went on to surpass what Dre did later, even on his first solo album. I wish one would hear more dissing of Dre courtesy of Eazy-E, buuut--Eazy's dead, so Dre's words take precedence, I guess. And there's even a whole buckload of distasteful ad for beats headphones at the end of the film. Truly bad.
This is a great movie I've watched this over three times and it's still popin
I'm still hating Suge. RIP Eazy E RIP 2Pac
Crap movie. Conveniently leave out the violent crimes they committed in order to make them out as baggy painted choir boys.
the best movie seen in a long time must see not appropriate for kids under14 because says a lot of cussing in it
Very nice movie ee ee
this movie needs more nudity. earn the R rating

Good Movie...really good movie...about something I don't really care all that much about. I'm a metalhead, and most metalheads barely recognize Rap as a music form. I'm not that hardcore and recognize rappers for what they are. Today's street poets.
I have heard of N.W.A., and of course Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, but not much more than that. Never really listened to any of the songs etc., but in the course of watching this movie I started to care a little more about the people and where they were coming from. I still don't like Rap mind you...but I can recommend this movie to anyone with an interest in music history.
