What an actor is Jake..Brilliant acting from everyone else though and very well done movie.
7.6/10!
I went to this movie because Tatiana Maslany was in it, and I know her to be a brilliant performer, and she did not disappoint! I've not been a Jake Gyllenhaal fan, but he is very good in this role. I liked the way the movie examines how our culture grasps for icons of hope, even when the object of that mania may be slowly self-destructing. Great topic, great roles, great acting. I give this film a 7.5 (great) out of 10. [Real Event Based Drama}
The second film I’ve seen based on the Boston marathon bombing and It was heart warming and strong all the way through. A great performance from Jake gyllenhaal. RIP to the 3 people that lost their lives in the real event and praying for the ones that survived and are struggling today.
Very inspirational story, but the acting in here is spectacular and it’s what made the movie. It took everything in me not to bawl my eyes out during their fight scene in the car. Jake has always been phenomenal, and this is the second movie I watch for Tatiana and she’s quickly becoming one of my favorite actors. Both are simply amazing, what a strong duo. And together they are stronger. See what I did there? Hah!
jake gyllenhaal is a fucking awesome actor i love him
only worth it for Jake Gyllenhaal performance. without him this would be average and a movie easy to forget over time. question: was his family really that weird or was added only to the movie?
What does it mean to be a hero? Are we just victims of the circumstances we are put it?
Jake Gyllenhaal gives a spectacular performance. Jeff Bauman is an average Joe who is put into an extreme situation. He deals with depression, PTSD, the public spotlight and what it means to be a hero. He tries to do the right thing and help the police catch the bombers but does that make him a hero? He becomes a public figure and a beacon of hope, does that make him a hero? He never gives up and inspires people he doesn't even know and that makes him a hero. He was just a guy at the wrong place at the wrong time but he became something much bigger, a figure for our strength, never giving up and #bostonstrong.
Fantastic movie overall. Very emotional. Tatiana Maslany is great too. A lot of great shots and camera work. The extreme close ups of Jeff's face when going through public places really makes us feel the emotion he is feeling.
Oscar nomination for Jake Gyllenhaal for sure, winning? I don't thinks so, even though Americans and the academy will eat this up like a Christmas pie. It has been a long time that I've seen a a movie where the actors performance is better than the movie itself. He will get nominated, as well as Tatiana Maslany, who I see actually having better chances of winning the Oscar, but in the end both might be going home empty handed. Yes its a real story, but I would like to know how much of the personal stuff was actually....lets say... modified for dramatic purposes. The end is super cringy and way to American which damages the movie more than anything else. In the last 5mins the movie destroyed all the good build up. It will probably be loved in the USA, but all other countries will be very disturbed and cringed by it, as the whole patriotism and hero chanting is way to much in this movie. Still...worth watching, but I have to say, that I was a little bit disappointed in the end.
I really liked this movie. It takes a different approach. David Gordon Green manages to make us feel the anxieties, hopes, family dramas of Jeff Bauman. The timing feature of the shoot works perfectly for the purpose of the movie; his problem with self-esteem in the face of his relationship, and the entire country charging him the "Boston Force," the weight carried by his girlfriend who blames the accident for himself, Jeff's mother's desire to show him as a hero to the world. All these situations lead us to reflect on how difficult it is for a person to adapt to society again after an accidental trauma that will change him for the rest of his life. Jake Gyllenhaal sinks in this character in an exceptional way, it is worth noting the scene of the car in which he discovers that he is going to be a father. This is a time of great complexity for the character who sees his reality confronted with the question of fatherhood. That was the main point for getting around, building hope and having the strength to go back to physical therapy and fix the things they had done wrong. We can not fail to speak of your meeting with the man who rescued you on the day of the explosions and brought the reflection of the concept of living and helping others. Lastly, if you are looking for a good drama film (about a real story) this is a good option.
Jake Gyllenhaal is too good for this film! While I appreciate Mr Baum's story and tribulations, this film about overcoming adversity brings nothing new to the genre, if not Gyllenhaal's stellar performance.
Powerful and emotional movie about hope and drive. Really strong performances all around. Maslany plays a character we don't see often in these types of movies, one who's very human, and struggles with how to cope. These kind of movies make me want to move to Boston.

Bauman's hero status was thrust upon him because of a terrible tragedy, and his humanity in dealing with that situation is what drives this movie. It's an inspirational tale, to be sure, and the message is this: we can all be heroes, no matter how ordinary we think we are.
