As an outsider, you get the feeling that the culture war in the US is getting worse and worse. The banning of numerous books from school libraries, including many classics, is certainly part of it. Whether it's banning books or other issues like the abortion debate, I find the fanaticism that is becoming more and more prevalent quite absurd. However, I don't think the short documentary 'The ABCs of Book Banning' is particularly strong, as it feels more like a part of the culture war than a film about it. It pretends that the voices of those who speak out against book banning are not being heard. But that's simply not true. Furthermore, the comparison with the Nazi era is simply laid on far too thick. At least the film is good at highlighting the absurdity of the measure. Some of the books presented here should not only not be banned from schools; they should be part of every curriculum. In this regard, 'The ABCs of Book Banning' is a small success after all.

Why would you force those books into schools? If something, buy every single book and donate them to schools.
