The Awful Truth 1937

Never quite reaches the heights of Bringing Up Baby or The Lady Eve, for me, but it's up there. The problem is the jokes don't flow quite as quickly as in some of the great screwballs, perhaps due to the improvisational structure of McCarey's process. That said, when the jokes are on, they're worth the wait. Grant is great here as usual, but the big standout to me is Irene Dunne--I feel you don't hear her name much these days, but it's no wonder she got top billing here. Her face in every scene just kills me.

Cary Grant is a great actor, but Irene Dunne is just amazing!!!!

And that makes The Awful Truth...

A rather good screwball comedy!!!

Good but nothing special.

A little disappointed given the reviews it gets.

image 3.5 / 5 and sound 3/5 . When you put together a good director + good script + good actors, a great movie comes out, in this case a good and funny comedy

This is a great comedy with Cary Grant. After a hasty divorce both Grant and Dunne try to move on, but yet they can't seem to allow their ex to do the same. So they both spend the whole movie trying to sabotage the others life, with hilarious results.
