It's got great visuals and endless style, but there's not much substance. It's an interesting and original movie with a unique premise, so it gets points for that, but it feels self indulgent and like it's trying a little too hard to be cool. It's also far too long for its own good.
Like a European Mad Max in Mexico with no cars.
I have to admit, that I actually liked this quite a bit. Maybe it's because of Jason Momoa or my soft spot for cruel post-apocalyptic stories. There was not too much dialogue but I thought that was good thing. Lack of speak makes you pay more attention to facial expressions and body language. I also liked clothing/costumes and the whole cannibals/drug addict-thing. I think I need to watch this again sometime. It's possible that I will like this movie less then, but today it just resonated well with my mood and mindset.
My impression was this movie doesn't want to be loved, and does everything to achieve that.
As a starting point it offers us a postapocaliptic world, where everyone is struggling to stay alive. It would be nice its mechanism to be presented, but I am able to know just a very few parts of it, and even those were barely elaborated.
And I can't believe how they screw it up, because on the one hand I've been bored as hell during the movie. I don't know what their intent with the lack of dialogue/very few dialogue was, but doesn't make itself more desirable to watch, because neither visually nor dialoguewise could bring itself closer to me, on contrary I rather wanted to turn it off many times, but somehow I was curious how the ending will turn out.
On the other hand it wasn't enough to be tedious, the story itself didn't make any sense. Wanted too much to show, but any of the storylines were closed properly.
I really liked the setting of this post-apocalyptic world and that's the only reason i kept watching it even though we get almost no backstory for it or the characters. The story, though, has no substance and the characters have 0 chemistry wtf was that ending? anyway it wasn't hard to watch for me, but i do agree it's too long for no reason. Watched it for Keanu Reeves but stayed because of the dystopian inspo. (he really only gets like 10 minutes of screen time)
This flick is insane and a trip. It's like a crazy blend of Mad Max, Turbo Kid, and Cannibal Holocaust. I found to be very entertaining, it kept me on the edge of my seat! Ensemble cast too, i did not expect to see Jim Carrey and Keanu Reeves!
The first ten-fifteen minutes of this movie are amazing, and they hit you like a truck. Then, it plays out as if you're supposed to be on drugs for the rest of the movie. It was certainly worth watching, and I think they had a lot of great ideas, but they didn't really focus them as well as they intended.
Hard to know what to say about this film. While it may become a future cult classic, this isn't a film I would return to in a hurry. I admired it but didn't gain much enjoyment from watching. Unafraid to stick to conventions, but perhaps too weird for its own good.
I liked the beginning of the movie, but then everything goes too bad.
Good Idea but they couldn't handle it with bad scenario.
So, Don't waste your time watching this, it's just horrible !
It's kind of a miss for me. Preety good acting, cinematography and vibe (a creepy good vibe, sort of) but it stretched for too long in my opinion.
The drugs-stary-night scene began well but it was way too long. Jim Carry was what exactly (maybe this IS what he was), Keanu Reeves is... someone who make kids and get rid of shit (actual shit)?
I don't know. The start was intense (it was actually the trailer) and from there it was fine.
Honestly, I thought that in the end she'll wake up and it was all a hallucination from the heat in the car, or even worse from the blood loss. 8 guess desert drugs can make you fall for the man who probably eat some part of you.
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Looook into my tuuuuuube.... you're getting sleeeeeeeepyyyyy
This is not for everyone, but if a grindhouse styled Mad Max (the Gibson original) populated by odd characters, none of which are truly likeable sounds interesting to you, you'll find something love, even if it's just the odd cameo roles (Jim Carey, Keanu Reeves, and Giovanni Ribisi all take a turn embracing their inner weird). Do be prepared for a slow, menacing pace that does not relent. This is a 30 minute story stretched to 2 hours, but it's done in such a way to make you feel a part of this deadly, dry, hopeless environment. I'm glad I watched it but I'm not sure it's something I'd want to revisit.
I was hoping for something similar to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.. It was weird, but not nearly enough drugs :v:
such a great cast and such a waste!
It's taken most of the day to get through this boring batch of badness.
If you like ASMR, you'll like listening to it., 'coz the sound mix isn't really mixed.
Alright soundtrack though.
I am often accused of being over critical of films but in this case I think the other reviews are too harsh. While it's far from perfect and is very slow at points where not enough information has been given to keep you engaged for such a period of ponderous shots, there were a number of good points.
I'll start by pointing out that the characters played by the big name drawcards weren't treated in a way that glorified their presence in the film. Their scenes didn't start with close ups to say, look this person is in the film and if not prior warned, many people probably wouldn't even have noticed that Jim Carey was in the film.
A big plus for me was the A-typical story, it didn't hit all it's marks but it wasn't predictable. Some of the unusual twists were the grounding of which the whole story was based, some were just unexpected or foreshadowed twists and turns while others were just outright confusing - did they delete a big scene with Keanu three quarters of the way through.
How these people exist in this wasteland and where the resources come from is not really explained or believable but it's not as bad in this respect as most of the popular big budget rubbish that Hollywood churns out... like pretty much any superhero film. Yet it's perhaps more obvious when the setting is so stark and there are fewer distractions to divert your attention.
I appreciated watching this for the things they tried to do even if they failed in many respects. Bad Batch has a lot more than will stick in your head and cause you to think back to it a few weeks later than a lot of much higher rated films that you will have forgotten the day after watching.
The biggest disappointment and reason for downvoting this film was the hokey ending shot. That said, it's a film that is more about the journey than the end.
I should have read the comments first. I kept expecting more...but I was wrong.
The first 15 minutes was striking, but the rest was rubbish. I couldn't understand 90% of what Jason Momoa was saying. And there was never an explanation of how Suki grew her leg back .
You have been warned.
Absolutely sucked really really bad
Grata sorpresa. Mundo post-apocalyptic, buenos personajes, buenos actores actrices, no lo duden, muy disfrutable
I couldn't make it through the first 10 minutes. I skipped thru looking for the Mamoa bits. I may give it another go eventually, but for now - as obsessed as I am with him, & as little of him is available- this still was not worth it.
Oh, & it should have a warning label for disturbing & graphic images.
Had no expectations going into this movie which may be why I enjoyed it. The acting isnt the greatest but it does slowly portray a love story which i feel would not have come across the same with dialogue. It's a very quiet and subtle story with hints of different societies and their leaders and finding out where you fit in or feel comfortable may not be what you expected.
the only reason i watched this movie was because of Keanu Reeves & Jason Momoa, and i don't know why they decided to join this cast. horrible movie.
Poor movie, poor story, poor acting. forgettable

I watched this to the end because I couldn't believe it could be so bad the whole way through. I was wrong. What a terrible movie.
