The Beguiled 2017

This film (about a peck of hens circling a cock) is all beginning with almost no end.

I really loved Nicole Kidman in this movie, but the story line is not worth it.. I was hoping for something more but in the end its just a disappointment and waste of good cast members.

kinda hilarious how some men are still not getting it

Not as effective, or as beguiling, as the 1971 original. The soft-focus and abbreviated storytelling don't help.

Exceptional cast wasted. Despite the talent available, and the story potential, this movie doesn't deliver. I think it was the fuzzy thinking of a director that couldn't decide on a direction to take the story or guide the cast. I give this film a disappointed 4 (poor) out of 10.

So you can trust the hospitality of southern women.

'The Beguiled' is underwhelming, but beautiful to look at. Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, and Colin Farrell are all excellent, as usual.

The technical side of things is on a level of masterpiece and the imagery is quite haunting. Sofia Coppola is a strong director, despite slipping recently. This however, this is one slow burn that doesn't amount to much at all. No time was spent on the chaos or conflict. The sexual tension is there, but everything else not so much. The whole thing felt safe.

Keep in mind, I think this is good. Wasn't blown away or amazed like anyone else.

It had the potential to be a great movie but then suddenly it moves too fast and it feels like it could've been much better, amazing cast wasted... I don't get the hype for Sofia Coppola I honestly dont.
edit: just saw other Movies of her and I absolutely loved it so I guess my problem was just this movie.

From writer/director Sofia Coppola comes The Beguiled, a Civil War period drama. The story follows a wounded Union soldier who is taken in and nursed by a group of young girls and their instructors at a Southern boarding school. Starring Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, and Elle Fanning, the cast is quite impressive and delivers strong performances. Additionally, Coppola does some interesting things in telling the story from a female perspective; showing how a man’s presence affects them and shifts the power dynamic. And the costumes and set designs are especially well-done, giving an authentic feel for the time-period. Yet ultimately The Beguiled meanders a bit too much and lacks a clear focus.

My new aesthetic is seven southern belles sewing a body bag around a deranged Colin Farrell

This movies was just 'ok' for me. I think that Nicole Kidman's intensity and presence may have gotten it more credit than it deserves. It just feels as though there was an act missing in the middle that may have elevated it to a better movie.
