The Children Act 2018

An absolutely astonishing work full of ethical or moral dilemmas in each and every minute of almost two hours movie. It pictures the why those judges that are good people goes sarcastic or looks 20 years older than they actually are. Bravo Emma Thompson !!!

Emma Thompson is extraordinary as always but the movie feels like two stories brought clumsily together.

Confused.

Incredible performances by Emma Thompson, Fionn Whitehead and Stanley Tucci. Such a tragic story and moral dilemma.

The actual story had very little to do with the movie blurb. Sure that happened but it wasn’t much of a decision because was a high court judge she did pretty much what you’d expect .. she followed the law. Otherwise the story felt disjointed from what it was really about .. the collapse of her marriage and the fallout of the court ruling and how they collide. I love Emma Thompson and Stanley Tucci .. they have good chemistry together and I enjoyed watching them together but overall the movie was only fair.

Not the film I expected; it goes beyond courtroom drama to something a little more bizarre, and yet quite fascinating. Thompson is superb, as is Whitehead, and the film itself is solid. It should have gone a little deeper with the themes it presents, but perhaps the novel the film is based on explores further.

A film about a respected judge in juvenile court, yet rather than delving into the complex ethical and moral dilemmas of her cases, her work is merely an excuse for us to leer at her love life, like drooling over pages of a teenager's diary. If it were a 60-year-old man fawning over a 17 / 18-year-old girl (or, God forbid, an 18-year-old boy!), this film couldn't have been made.

I find The Children Act (which doesn't even have the decency to be based on a true story) is not as innocent as it claims, but is guilty of killing a good premise and robbing me of 90 minutes of my life.

Watch Remains of the Day instead.
