Way better than I thought it was gonna be. Decent combination of cult and cosmic horror that had my interest throughout. A man with his pregnant wife returns to his childhood home on a remote island after a long time to claim the house. As soon as they get there, they're invited by local police to learn more about community and their traditions. Soon they learn that they worship what they call The Slumbering One. Great effort for its budget which I appreciate. This film lacks surprises but you get great cinematography, good acting, beautiful scenario, creepy atmosphere, decent score, slick editing and Barbara Crampton doing Norwegian accent. I wish we would have seen the monster but making it unseen kinda works and adds the dread so I don't really mind.
I’m a sucker for Lovecraftian horror, so despite the poor reviews, I decided to give this one a go. I shouldn’t have bothered. It started off quite well, but then descended into something that was lazy and slapdash. Don’t sacrifice your time.
