Elegant Beast 1962

Adapted from a play, the whole thing takes place in a single room. However the camera angle is almost never the same, we see the room from inside, from outside the window, from the stairs, from the small window into the next room, from behind a character, from top, from bottom, close up on characters, etc. It makes the limited action very dynamic compared from the single point of view of a play.

Story is ok, we follow the schemes of a family of con artists, well, more the aftermath than the actual schemes: the son embezzling money from his company, the daughter from her boyfriend, the father borrowing money and gambling. Until they find out that the company's accountant was way smarter, and got more money out of everybody while making sure she can't be caught.

It still feels a little too theatre like for me, but just the camera work makes it worth the watch and combined with a story that is not that anchored in the period, it makes it look less older than it actually is.
