Incredible insight into the lives of five women called to work in manufacturing and other factory-type jobs during WW2. The amount of sexism and racism faced my these and other women that essentially propped up the war machine should be staggering to any viewer of today - it made welding and ship fitting seem like the easiest part of their lives. These stories are about courageous people who would not let any walls of ignorance prevent them from becoming contributors in American society. Well-made film documenting the flash point for equality in this country. Humorous at times, great contemporaneous footage, matter-of-fact storytelling. You come to realize that post-war America pretty much let these and other skilled, energetic working women down. They simply wanted to assert their own independence rather than return to being domestics, store clerks and homemakers, and while the generations to follow would smash this paradigm, the first ones through the wall always take the hit. Sobering, wonderful film, hard to find but well worth the effort.
