The Night Flier 1997

3 Thoughts After Watching ‘The Night Flier’:

  1. I’ve never wanted a main character to be eaten more.

  2. This felt less like a feature film and more like a long episode of Tales From the Crypt, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

  3. It was a simple tale, but particularly unique in the vast vampire realm of film. I enjoyed the use of flashbacks and the way the story unfolded. But the vibes win here. It felt classically creepy. Nothing that’ll give you nightmares, but a properly-atmospheric watch during spooky season.

Bonus Thought: Why the hell was their boss so unhinged?

A well-crafted and riveting horror mystery based on a Stephen King short story. His lesser-known films usually suck, so I went into it with low expectations and quite surprised by how good this was. Probably one of the best vampire films I've seen. The film boasts some genuine chills and thrills even though when you think about the premise, the idea of a vampire flying around in a personal plane is so silly. But somehow it doesn't feel silly while watching it and I think this very unique take on vampire genre is what make the film compelling. The lead performance is consistently engaging and the gloomy atmosphere adds to the experience. There's a good amount of blood and gore which is always a good thing and they really nail it on the vampire look. Also the finale is so good and effective it brings the film to a whole new level. It’s definitely worth your time.
