I did not see where this movie was headed. This is one of Carrey's better performances!
I should've watched it yesterday
Loved it!
Please don't watch this.
A well-crafted psychological thriller, The Number 23 is subtle in its intrigue and powerful in its story. After Walter Sparrow receives a used book titled “The Number 23” for his birthday, he becomes obsessed and comes to believe that the book has a secret code in it and that it’s trying to tell him something. The casting is quite good, and features Jim Carrey, Virginia Madsen, and Rhona Mitra; Carrey in particular gives an especially impressive performance. And, Joel Schumacher does an excellent job at creating a dark noir visual style that has a sense of foreboding and mystery. Still, there are some weaknesses in the storytelling; as the plot gets a little convoluted and attempts one too many twists. Yet while it has some problems, The Number 23 is a compelling and provocative film.
Intriguing story with good rhythm. Puzzle style. Quite entertaining.
best thriller movie of the 2000s
It's better you don't think about it after watching it, then it's ok. If you just can't stop yourself from doing that, well you will find the whole plot really silly. Jim Carrey silly.
Well, looking at the terrible ratings I thought this was gonna be a bad movie. I don't know if I had set my expectations too low, but I did enjoy it!
Sure, the movie has its flaws: it's slow-paced and a little boring in the beginning, a little overacted by Jim Carrey too, but I liked the plot twist, and I felt relieved that the ending didn't turn out in a sad killing fest. The main character got a sort of a redeeming happy ending, and I thought it was a nice change.
I honestly thought this movie had potential but it was a bit disappointing how predictable the ending was. Though, I must say that I really enjoyed seeing Jim Carey in a different role apart from what he’s usually typecast as.
I liked the movie. It's great to see an actor doing a role that you normally would not picture him doing it. I respect the fact that people can see the number everywhere, I think when we start looking for something, we start seeing everywhere. It's like when you want to buy a new desk, all of the sudden you are walking outside and you see amazing desks at window shoppings, you think it's because of you but maybe it's because the school year is about to start.
I don't know why people didn't like the movie (the majority), I think it's because people thought or would like to see the movie more focused on the number that the life of the main character.
When he say all the times that bad things happen in the world, that matches 23, I would like to see an obsession in that, maybe he goes online and find forums about it, with all these events.
But no, he just says it. and then the movie is just about how the book, is equal to his life. There's a point in the movie, that the number is not important anymore, that matters is the fact that his past life is like in the book.
The movie had the potential of being out-of-this-world if they focus more on the number (BECAUSE IT'S THE NAME OF THE MOVIE) and less on his life.
