painfully average, like most things zizek does. occasional nuggets of insight, ie. that the eponymous birds in hitchcock's film exist as oedipal agents of mitch's mother, as well as most of the commentary on lynch which elucidates the director's fascination with fantasy, reality and their conjunction. but lacanian psychoanalysis can only go so far, and listening to zizek endlessly categorizing the film's characters/settings into id/ego/superego isn't engaging
